Michael Jackson finally bringing Ireland and the UK together in harmony. The blood inside of me is inside of you. And this is before any retaliation/proposed Taj documentary.

So it makes no difference for 83% of people. Good.

So it makes no difference for 83% of people. Good. And that’s Week one. It’ll diminish by a couple of percent each week until the status quo is resumed. Unfortunately it’s that 17% that have the loudest voice and we're guilty of paying too much attention to.

Today there was an article about Leaving Neverland on the website that I always visit for political, social news and comments in my country (Hungary). It is a liberal website and the article was in the tone of what you say in the international liberal media: "a must see", "changes the way we look at victims", "MJ's music should be put to the trash" - bla-bla, taking the story at face value as usual.
The liberal media is fucking unsaveable from itself.
The comments, however, positively surprised me. This is a crowd with rather cynical, snobbish, white middle class people, not really what you would expect to be the MJ-fan crowd. But then I saw so many positive comments and even many comments which were very educated about the case! I didn't expect that. I have a blog in Hungary too about these allegations (I have seen some link it), but it is by far not as detailed and as organized as my English language one as my focus was on a bigger, international audience.
So there were three type of reactions. There was of course the "dirty pedo, burn down Neverland" type, but that was a minority. Mostly it were people calling out the notion that just because an artist might have done something wrong we should get rid of their art. Like said it is not really what I would think of as the MJ-listening crowd but people said he is such an integral part of pop culture, you can't throw him out and you shouldn't either. They pointed out of you wanted to throw out the works of every artist from your library or record collection who wasn't a saint then you might be left with very little. Some even came out admitting liking his songs LOL and talk about what a great, talented artist he was (like I said it tends to be a snobbish crowd, that you would expect to listen to alternative stuff and the like).
And then there were also very MANY comments which expressed doubt about these allegations, which pointed out how we shouldn't so readily believe two guys who changed their stories, who pointed to the tastelessness of this being done to a dead man who cannot defend himself, who called out the monetary motive. And there were several, to my surprise, who showed even some deeper knowledge in the case and called out the BS.
So overall I was pleasantly surprised by the reactions.
ETA: Another good thing is that here in my country it will be on HBO Go, which I don't think that many people have. Thankfully not on one of our big channels.

I had my weekly music gathering last night. At one point someone else brought up LN and asked what everyone else thought.
Everyone there agreed that it's complete bullshit. One friend said "this changes nothing for me. Michael Jackson was a complicated man, with an extraordinary life on many levels both good and bad. I think he made some questionable and outright bad decisions but I do not think he ever harmed a child".
Everyone else agreed with that statement, so that's great news for me.

Gives you a boost, doesn't it?
I was confronted with it today for the first time, and it was great. A nurse came in to my room (I'm in hospital), and saw I was watching MJ on my laptop and she started talking about how great he is and that these allegations is absolutely ridiculous! It made me so happy

I work at a high school (for non-Americans, that's students 15-18) and have had my ear to the ground to see if any of my students have mentioned Michael or LN, but I haven't heard them say anything. This is a major contrast to R. Kelly, who has become a big joke and I constantly hear kids mentioning him in a (deservedly) negative way.
Perhaps not resoundingly good news, but I think it goes to show the younger generation really doesn't care. A lot of my students loved the Drake-MJ collab from last year, and know his hits.

Absolutely did give me a boost. I was in a Best Buy today and overheard sales people talking about it. I didn't engage but both of them were telling each other how they thought the doc was bullshit. I just smiled and went on my way.
