That's why it makes me raise my eyebrows The Beatles and Elvis are still supposedly the biggest selling acts if Michael is more relevant than any of them combined.
That list is pretty ridiculous though. Especially when we try to convert it into actual sales. MJ is only at #65. Even putting aside the Beatles and Elvis, can anyone seriously claim that Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Louis Armstrong, Tina Turner, The Temptations (all in the Top 10) sell more than MJ? Or that those 64 acts in front of MJ sell more than him? Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire (who), the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, Prince, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight, Neil Diamond, Cyndi Lauper etc. etc. are all more popular than MJ, according to this. Yeah, right. We know for a fact that most of those acts in front of him are just not anywhere near MJ either in sales or streams. So it seems to me that you are doing well on this list simply if you are not very controversial. How many people are actually listening to your music is a whole another matter.
There are some other interesting results there, that don't seem right, like Pink Floyd at #73. My experience is that basically the most popular legacy acts that people actually still buy/stream are: MJ, Queen, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bob Marley. Those are the biggest. Elvis is not really in that league, to be honest. He is more an icon, a symbol of an era (much like Marilyn Monroe or James Dean), but his music isn't doing as well as some other legacy arist's.

My best friend started dating someone new recently, so we've been working this new guy into our regular lives. The 3 of us went out to the bar near my house the other night, then my friend went home while her new dude and I reported to my basement to spin records. Of course Michael came up and her new guy was like "I'm just not sure what to think". He wasn't an asshole about it, he's just the average guy who's heard a little bit of everything and truly didn't know enough to make a judgement call. Me being me, I said "Well, let's assume Michael's innocence for tonight and I'll play you some of my favorites you may have never heard". I busted out stuff like Butterflies, Speechless, Will You Be There, Childhood, They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow and so on. He hadn't heard most of those songs and kept saying how surprised he was by them. I told him I'd shoot him some fact based links to look at the next day, which I did. He sent me a text last night and said that he'd read everything I'd sent him along with a lot of other things. Part of the text said "God dammit. I can't believe I didn't know all of this. MJ is as innocent as the day is long!" I sent my best friend a text that said "Good news. You don't have to break up with Kyle" lol. She replied "?" and I said "Michael came up last Thursday when he & I hung out at my house. He just now sent me a text saying that he's on the right side of history". She replied "Lol, well that's a relief!"

Wow, Russ, you always have the coolest and most uplifting anecdotes with regular people when it comes to Michael! This was posted by Nancy Cartwright during the week on her FB page. She voices Bart Simpson It shows Nancy is the one from the Simpsons cast who loved/appreciated Michael the most, no matter how many times I read her anecdote with Michael from her autobiography, My Life as a 10 Year Old Boy, it always warms my heart to imagine how adorable, sweet and kind he was. It makes me wish I could've witnessed those traits up close in person. I hope Nancy doesn't get in trouble for expressing some support. In case you want to read Nancy's anecdote again just to cheer you up a little.

Love Alicia and I actually dig her Time Machine song! Good song, nice to have her back. I loved her last album Here, it wasn't a big hit but I thought it was her best since As I Am.

Meanwhile in Vegas business as usual. Another reminder for me and my friend to go to Vegas again real soon and see this again, among other things.

Went out with some work mates tonight and the live band at the bar played Rock With You! Got a good amount of applause after too.
Nothing big, I know. I guess it's just good to hear him be normalised again.
Every time I wear an MJ t-shirt - which is more often now that the weather is getting all summery, I definitely wonder how people are judging me so this is music to my ears (literally and figuratively )

This is a diamond ring made in honor of the Jackson family, the 7 diamonds in it represent the J5 and the two parents. Its maker made it for MJ's tenth death anniversary. The owner of the jewelry company was MJ's translator when he was here so this personal reason is why he wanted to honor him. It was now offered up for an auction where the money will go to charity. Mute who?
