I watched this documentary on Netflix called Unnatural Selection. It is about biohackers. They are not hacking computers, but genomes. I didn't even know it was a thing, but apparently it is. Now it is possible to do genetic manipulation in one's garage or kitchen. One guy even sells starting kits for those who are interested in doing this. Obviously it raises a lot of ethical questions. But these biohackers say it is Big Pharma that is unethical, because it rips people off of big money about something that people actually could do themselves.
Then there is a topic of gene drives which is putting a gene out in nature (by releasing genetically modified animals into nature) that would result in a certain trait of that population become dominant. This way they could actually wipe out entire populations of animals. For example, there is a proposal to kill all rats in New Zealand this way. The idea is that they put out genetically manipulated rats that would procreate with the rats in nature and a dominant gene would result in only males being born, which at the end would obviously wipe out the entire population. Rats aren't native in NZ and they endanger the native birds, that's why it would be beneficial. Interestingly thought there's a big resistance from the people there, so they rejected it so far.
There is also a similar idea in Africa to stop the mosquitos from spreading malaria.
It's pretty scary what humans are (would be) able to do with genetics now.
Here's a TED talk about how that gene drive would work in the case of mosquitos.
This is one of the guys in the Netflix doc

I went to watch Doctor Sleep which is a sequel to The Shining. It is an entertaining movie, but also shows why the first part is masterpiece and this one does not live up that level. I like it that The Shining is left mysterious. That you don't really get to KNOW what the whole thing in the hotel is about. It is something that will make people speculate and that is a good thing. This one answers everything and I am not sure if that is a good thing. As a movie it is OK, entertaining, but it is run-off-the mill.

Well, Stephen King wrote Dr. Sleep, most of his books have been adopted to the big screen. I'm a King fan and I've also liked Mike Flanagan's movies and his Netflix series. So I'm interested to watch the movie.

I just watched all of Star Trek: Discovery (Season One) and LOVED IT. My goodness what an adventure.
I also finished Marianne, a French horror show on Netflix and that one took a while to get through. Scared the crap out of me!
