Do we really need an new thread for this? This is nothing new compared to what has already been discussed here for months. Only the media is catching up now.

I think this is a pretty significant update, and has nothing to do with Leaving Neverland, so felt it justified its own thread. If this ruling goes ahead, does this mean a trial is definitely going to happen?

We have discussed this here like half a year ago. It's nothing new compared to that, it's just the media catching up now. Like we discussed months ago, it will likely go back to trial judge based on the new bill. At least Robson's case. It doesn't mean it's definitely going to trial. It means it is going to start all over again. The Estate already said if it goes back to trial court they are going to seek for a new discovery etc. At least this should be moved to the Trials and Tribulations section.

At least this should be moved to the Trials and Tribulations section. Good idea. I'm going to let the thread remain open as it may be prudent to have a separate thread for the lawsuit (and hopefully the big-ass LN thread will die a slow death by next year), but it does belong in the Trials and Tribulations, so I'm going to move it there.

Yeah, that's a good idea. It's OK to discuss it, but I hate to see threads like this dominate the main section. Maybe the LN thread should be moved here as well now? Just an idea. I know it's been major "news" this year, it's the biggest thread too, but maybe it ran its course now in the main section?

If we move the LN thread on here (I agree) then we need to make a concerted effort to keep the main forum alive with new threads. I know it's difficult with no new news to speak of. But even if it's about Invincible or the HIStory tour, rehashed arguments are better than no activity for days.

On the website of Finaldi's firm. (AB-218 is the new bill.) Disgusting ambulance chasers.

While I am in favour of the law myself (the ridiculous amounts of clerical abuse cases in Ireland alone is harrowing), it can definitely be abused (ie. like now).
I can't for the life of me see how they think they can tackle the MJ estate as if it were a Catholic Church or School. So many catholic church abuse cases involve cover ups, and moving the priest from Parish to Parish- this is exactly what this bill was passed for. They have such such an uphill battle. In the media, all we see in headlines is "Their case can be reheard, reopened, they can sue for millions). Not one article talks about what they are now actually trying to prove.
As Respect so beautifully pointed out in a brilliant thread of tweets, this all seems like something they would really be suing their parents for. They would have a better chance of winning at least.
I remain cautiously optimistic about this whole thing (should it ever get far enough) for the following reasons:
It seems no one actually cares at the minute For every story they tell, said story will now be put under scrutiny For every story they tell, there are now more potholes than ever for them to trip up in Them trying to prove that the companies will be liable will probably contradict a lot of what has already been said, written etc. What could be worse than what was written in 2005/early 2019? I cant see anything. LN was the kitchen sink being thrown. Mud stuck, and started to wash away. It will be shit for a while yes, but we're a cool bunch so we'll just be cool and get through it.
Isn't Dangerous brilliant?

Also, I'd second Respects motion to move the LN thread to here. I'm sick of seeing that "I hate to be the bearer of bad news" first post and always getting a heart attack thinking some new shit has gone down ha!

So many catholic church abuse cases involve cover ups, and moving the priest from Parish to Parish- this is exactly what this bill was passed for. The old law perfectly covered that, as I explain in my Twitter thread. It is not like victims of CSA didn't have the chance to sue a church or school for cover up so far. It is not even that they could not sue past their 26th birthday. Even under the old law they could very well sue those churches. The only requirement was that they had to prove that the organization knew or had a reason to know that the perpetrator abused children and it had control over that perpetrator (eg. it was an employee who they could move from one position to another, fire etc.). Those are perfectly reasonable requirements IMO, not some unreasonable burden for poor accusers.
No, this is absolutely catering to MeToo sentiments and politicians virtue signaling and that basically now resulted in a law that's not balanced and fair, but favors one party over the other (ie. the accusers) and basically makes it even more easy for lawyers to get rich at the cost of schools and other organizations who now God save from all the lawsuits they will have to fight instead of focusing on their main job.
