Well they did, but with outside writers. They started using other writers from permanent Vacation onwards.ย That's interesting. It's rare for a rock band to use outside songwriters, isn't it? (Not talking about covers.) I knew Diane Warran wrote Don't Want to Miss A Thing but presumed it was a one off as a film song.

(Not talking about covers.) Yeah that's why it's so interesting! Theyve maintained it since then. Maybe a couple of songs on each album with no help, but the last AMAZING song they wrote with no help was Hangman Jury but I could be wrong.

I knew Diane Warran wrote Don't Want to Miss A Thing but presumed it was a one off as a film song. They definitely used outside writers quite a bit from Vacation on. They, along with Jovi and a couple other acts of the time heavily used a guy named Desmond Child. To answer the original question, it doesn't take anything away from the album for me personally. Of course it takes talent to write the tune, but it also takes a lot of talent to do something special with the song once it's written. I've never minded the fact that Elvis wrote none of his own music and Garth Brooks writes very little of his, for the same reason. We're recording the next tournament episode tonight. This one is the latest Eminem album versus the first album by GNR. I'm very interested to see how this one will turn out lol. Going forward, there are some TOUGH match ups! Albums like Purple Rain, Rumours and Thriller are will have their first match ups soon.

Cher is another example, Michael Bolton too. Just seen that none other than Glen Ballard is credited as a songwriter on one of my favourite Aerosmith tracks - Pink!

I always forget that Glen had a hand in that one.

As someone who can't tell an Eminem song since the Rihanna one, hence why I didn't say "can't name a song"

But solo artists using outside songwriters isn't that unusual. There are four or five people in a rock band and that many people can always contribute enough material to choose from, one would think. Probably that's why it's rare for rock bands to use outside songwriters. Also, in rockist culture the whole "authenticity" thing is big therefore it is probably more highly rated if they write their own music.

Episode 15 is out now on all the usual outlets. We're talking about copyright laws, record companies blocking fans from sharing music and so on.

We're recording the next bonus episode tonight. These have been fun for me, so I'm hoping everyone likes them too.
There are some really big match ups coming, so it should get interesting.
As far as the regular show goes, does anyone have any feedback? I want to make the show the best I can, so I want to hear if there's anything in particular someone likes or dislikes. The idea being to do more of what people are liking and less of what people don't.
I'm really hoping to grow the audience, so any feedback helps!

Even if there were improvements to be made, I'm pretty comfortable with the way the show goes anyway.

I'm always open to suggestions though, that's for sure.

Episode 16 is out, which features our first ever interview.
We spoke to a Canadian artist named Oceanship who did NOT hold back with his thoughts on artists rights.
We were also given a track from his forthcoming album so we could play a couple of clips of it.

Wow this latest episode is getting a lot of traction due to Oceanships radical thoughts on the ethics of being a music fan.
