I don't disagree on that. I find Stevie's voice irritating on JGF too. Lets face it, Paul kept the best duet (Say Say Say) for his own album. Okay that, we agree on. Bearing in mind MJ wrote both (didn't he?), I wonder why he chose TGIM. It's so hard to imagine Thriller any other way, I'm not sure SSS instead of TGIM would work. I sorta think of the Butterfly effect with Thriller, it only would have taken one slight change & the history of being the best selling album ever would have been a very different story...

I think Paul was a bigger star than MJ pre-Thriller, so it was probably Paul who decided to keep SSS for himself. I think TGIM was more Michael's baby anyway. He wrote that alone I believe and presented it to Paul, whereas SSS was a more collaborative effort. I can't imagine SSS on Thriller either. Don't wanna give off the wrong impression, I actually really like TGIM.

Oh, come on Tone. TGIM is the corniest thing he ever recorded. I'm not saying it isn't a good song, but aazzaabb used exactly the right word calling it "twee." It has a certain charm to it, but it's not his finest hour by a long margin and probably the only track on Thriller which hasn't aged like a fine wine. Matty is right of course and explains perfectly what I was getting at. McCartney can be a bit of a corndog and I’d imagine he’d be first to admit it. The Man is also smothered with the same middle of the road shmaltzy 80’s McCartney DNA and the chorus is an anticlimactic flop. Of the 4 McCartney tracks Girlfriend, TGIM, The Man.........Say Say Say is by far and away the very best effort. MJ’s hook “All alone, I sit home by the phone, Waiting for you, baby (baby). Through the years, how can you stand to hear My pleading for you?” Is full of intent, confidence and makes the song more than it is. MJ’s presence lifts the track to a much better place. We’re hearing a fully fledged unyielding Michael Jackson on Say Say Say. Don’t get me wrong, like Matty I too like TGIM. As an album track it works very well and it gives the album that palate cleanser just before 3 of the biggest pop tracks of all time leaves everything in their wake stone dead, and even then after MJ’s incredible run you’ve got Human Nature to gently reawaken you. P.Y.T?? Fantastic! Just utterly brilliant in that it’s the perfect slice of bubble gum pop! Always unapologetically loved it!
