Born in 1982 in Tucson, Arizona, Nicole Miller moved to Los Angeles in 2001 to attend CalArts and continued with a graduate degree from USC Roski School of Fine Arts; she still lives and works in Los Angeles. Recently, Miller has had solo exhibitions at Ballroom Marfa, Centre d’Art Contemporain Geneva, the High Line in New York, and Kunst Werke in Berlin. She has also shown at LAXART in Los Angeles, and her work has been featured in major museum exhibitions such as Made in LA at the Hammer Museum, Fore at the Studio Museum in Harlem, and Dallas Biennale at Dallas Contemporary. Last year she completed an eighteen-month project with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her work is included in the collections of LACMA, the Hammer Museum, and SFMOMA.
Now the presentation is made, why do we want to talk about Nicole?
Back in 2018, Nicole purchased Rick Baker’s Michael Jackson Body molds from the movie “Moonwalker” for $11,000 at an auction house.
This lifecast of Jackson was created during the production of the film.
This lifecast is comprised of five two-sided plaster molds and a positive cast created with the molds. The set includes two arm molds, two leg molds, and one torso mold. Both the arms and legs were cast in a folded position. Each of the five molds is two sided and is currently held together with duct tape. All of the molds are labeled “M. Jackson Life Cast.”
The included fiberglass cast has been assembled into a full-size model and painted black. The set has sustained some wear and the model does not have a right arm, but the set remains in otherwise good condition. Torso dimensions: torso 10” x 14” x 27” (25 cm x 36 cm x 69 cm); arm dimensions (each): 11” x 8” x 22” (28 cm x 20 cm x 56 cm); leg dimensions (each) 11” x 5” x 16” (28 cm x 13 cm x 41 cm); positive cast dimensions: 23” x 16” x 44” (58 cm x 41 cm x 112 cm)
Nicole Miller then decided to make a bronze statue from the cast and called it “Michael in Black”.
This is the most open to interpretation piece she ever made. The sculpture presents Michael Jackson in a humble and vulnerable pose, with his head slightly lowered, yet he is placed upon a pedestal.
“This image of the entertainer who was called The King of Pop in such a tentative posture posits a disconnect between the public and private selves of Jackson but is also complicated by his non-unitary public persona, which was simultaneously powerful and sensitive.”

Artist Brendan Murphy has created a 22-foot, 3,000-pound sculpture named “The Boonji Spaceman,” which stands on a dock in the middle of the ocean at the Hodges Bay Resort in Antigua. The sculpture is inspired by a Michael Jackson dance pose and represent a spaceman covered by words and mathematical equations. The sculptural work of Brendan Murphy communicates a rare perspective on the modern human experience through explorations of form, color, language, and universal symbols. Thematically, Brendan Murphy explores the interplay of beauty, power and the need to understand the source of all the energies of life. The inspirations of the work; formulas, equations, relationships; create a pictorial spectrum of human emotion and the unifying natures of shared humanity. Through the layering of these emblems, Brendan Murphy’s painted works boldly portray careful imagery and density of the human experience, exposing the deep natural beauty that surface in this fragile balance. Since the spaceman’s arrival in March, the hotel says it has become a tourist attraction. Murphy believes the sculpture represents a willingness to take on anything. “Who better to embody embracing the unknown than a guy jumping out of a spaceship into space?” Murphy said. When Christopher Harding, the co-owner of the Hodges Bay Resort, commissioned Murphy to create another version of his spaceman, Murphy said he knew it had to be big, literally. “We wanted to create something that you could see from space down on the island,” he said. Murphy said they hired a company to take photos of the sculpture from space that they plan to release soon. If you look closely at Murphy’s creation, you’ll find words like “future,” “wish” and “vision” from top to bottom. “It really reflects what’s next, what are the possibilities,” Murphy said. “I tried to capture that in the words. A lot about dreams, imagination. The future has not yet been written.” www.brendanmurphyart.com/

Let’s meet French artist Patrice Murciano from the city of Monpellier, in the south of France. Patrice has had ups and downs throughout his life to a point where he was homeless sleeping in his car, trying to make a living of his paintings. One day in 2010, he painted Michael Jackson that he admires very much. The painting was on display in a pizza restaurant and a fan bought it for €500. The Michael Jackson went beyond kindness and offered a roof to Patrice. Patrice never forgot this act of kindness which is also linked to Michael Jackson. He went to create more paintings and one day he made a mistake by splashing some colors to his on going painting and by trying to clean it, he saw a new way to paint which he named “New Pop”. The rest is history as Patrice is now a well-known artist and his painting goes for thousands of Euros. He is also releasing a book with some of his arts and he selected a Michael Jackson’s imagery for the cover and Dieter Wesner wrote the foreword for the occasion. "As far back as my memory can go, I remember always drawing, painting, creating... This is how Patrice Murciano recounts the beginnings of his great passion for art and Pop Art, going so far as to later create a style that he personally calls "New Pop". Patrice Murciano says: "The more I advanced in the NEW POP the more the world opened up to me: I had the immense chance to meet beautiful people, beautiful souls, famous or not, and to realize works that are close to my heart. Who would have thought that one day I would be approached by Dieter Wiesner, who was Michael Jackson's manager from 1996 until his death? A call that will result in the realization of 7 works on Michael for a beautiful project, while Dieter will agree to write the preface of my new book "NEW POP 10th Anniversary" with words that always make me cry, with each reading." Patrice Murciano will also offer from October 1st two "calend'ART" 2022, one of which will present one of his works on Michael Jackson illustrating the month of February. www.instagram.com/patrice_murciano/gallerymurciano.com/en/

French Instagram artist Kyès digitally recreates classical paintings by substituting people that were important back in the day with people who are considered to be important in pop culture nowadays. And of course the King of Pop found his place in the gallery alongside of Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Madonna, and many more… https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTIhzIgb10
