Something else that comes to mind is that this is a good way to show the world that MJ is/can/and will be celebrated with or without mainstream media’s approval! People coming together as a collective in a physical space shows others that it’s ok to embrace MJ and enjoy his art. You can’t really gage that with a 25th/30th boxset even if it’s a big seller because it’s just not a tangible thing. Seeing people celebrating in large is a totally different thing to reading or hearing about people celebrating through purchasing a boxset release.
I still want and feel fans deserve something along the lines of physical box sets/media but perhaps this could be seen as a stepping stone to restoring MJ’s public approval (which is slowly happening anyway) and go from there.

Reading through all of this it’s very hard not to get caught up in all the hoopla. This is a redemption of sorts for MJ. A love-in, and it’s great for fans to have a space where they can go and celebrate the music and be themselves to a greater extent. As said above, 90 percent of the greatness is undoubtedly MJ’s music. Would be nice if it becomes a longstanding Broadway staple such as The Lion King, Phantom of The Opera etc. If it’s as good as all this hype then they should also consider maybe putting a touring cast together and getting it out to the wider fanbase around the world. that's only if it's does good.

i'm hearing good things about myles. they said his voice kind of sounds like michaels. which is good with the fact he so young i want him to get positive reviews since this is his first time doing something like this and portraying an legend.
even if Michael music charts etc goes up that still not gonna stop the lies. we just need to face the fact michael has haters just like all of us.
i'm hearing mix reviews from people who not fans saying why this exits lynn nottage should of did an different show.
i agree with non fans with this case. one is an fan of Janet saying they are waiting for an Janet musical and not going for this one.

So you agree with those non-fans who believe MJ was guilty and that's why they are saying this musical should have never happened? Because that's why those people are saying that. You know that, right? The "mixed reviews" are just the media's usual (and expected) virtue signaling AGAINST MJ, not a valid criticism of the show or MJ's art. I personally don't really care about that. If the show is good and it will attract people, the virtue signaling bullies in the media can stay pressed. And I only care about opinions and reviews that critique the actual show and not what they think of MJ's personal life.

One other criticism I saw was this claiming the show was lacking in MJ songs. LOL. Other than 5 of the 37, all of those are MJ or J5/Jacksons songs. I guess the critic only heard of Billie Jean so far. The whole article seems badly written anyway.

I think we should take for granted that the allegations will come up in reviews (to be fair, we all wondered how/if they would be addressed ourselves, so it's only right to assume the media will. It sells.) We've seen that fans like it (To be honest I've seen nothing negative from any fans so far) and now it's down to the show/story/performance itself. The people who are out to get the show have been out to get it from 2019, so we need a bit of perspective before we read into every single review and get disheartened.

I wouldnt even bother reading reviews. We all know the majorities agenda when it comes to mj. What matters is bums on seats! And that wont be known for a while interms of the general public.

and later the musical’s name was changed, from a potentially problematic “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” to the simpler “MJ.” Oh come the f on. ""Potentially problematic"" 🙄

The irony:
"and was besieged by reporters fixated on everything but his artistry".
Then he does just that.
I find such articles completely pointless at this point. The media should stop trying to be the moral police. Everyone can make up their own mind whether they believe the allegations or not or, if they do, they seperate artist and art. We don't need the media constantly preach about supposed moral rights and wrongs in place of a review.

www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/comments/rb5vh3/my_mj_the_musical_thoughts/I believe the main post has already been posted here, but there is a small amount of discussion in the comments. Couple of comments about the allegations, some about the story, some about song choices and all that.
While I'll still read them, I'm more interested in discussions from the general public than I am from the media. Judging from MJ fans initial reactions, I know they'll love it so I expect good reviews from them, whereas the media will always find ways to try and cram in the allegations (as seen above with the NYT). I think the general public will be far more varied in that sort-of-thing so you'll have a better cast of opinions I think.
