Well, MJ himself talked about his abuse by Joseph. His trauma from that abuse was so big that he would throw up upon seeing him. Or telling people not to let him in. On the Glenda tapes he's also going on and on and on about Joseph. From a dramatic POV I think every interesting story has a dramatic arch, some kind of conflict-resolve, and I think it's a pretty good choice that they went for the Joseph angle, considering that this was definitely the big trauma of his life that affeced a lot of things in his life. Without a conflict, what would actually be the story of the show? Just people happily singing MJ songs? Don't forget this is supposed to be a theatrical piece with a story, not just an impersonator concert. I doubt there's anything in the show about Joseph that we didn't know already and that MJ himself (or some of his siblings) didn't say one way or another.

Joseph's (widely known) violent treatment of his family absolutely had an effect on MJ's creative process and all you have to do is look at "Childhood" to hear it from the horses mouth. This is something that doesn't need to be whitewashed to save some feelings.

If Nature referred to Lynn Nottage and Christopher Wheeldon, I'm conflicted about their involvement making that musical as well. They more likely had a price the estate easily afforded and they shielded themselves in the pretext of separating the art from the artist, which is absolute bullshit because Michael put much of him as the person in his art.

I feel people asking too much on Myles. Myles isn't MJ he just acting him. we all know Michael wasn't exactly like Myles. some people ask for too much.
i understand that people miss MJ but this just a show. i mean that's not to say the show needs to be good but you know. i feel some people asking for alot.
don't be so hard on him if anything you should be asking people who believes he's guilty who doing this.

Again, who is asking too much? It seems you are reading too much into other websites and bringing the comments to this one without context. I have to say of all your posts regarding negative comments for the musical, I haven't seen any similar anywhere. Maybe you need to think about certain websites or forums that you use, because they seem to be overwhelmingly negative even though you are a very positive person. All comments have been overwhelmingly positive about this show, which is something we haven't experienced in a few years so I think you should enjoy this for now and not read into every detail as it won't get anyone anywhere

We need this moment to just enjoy and bask in a little positivity! The past 3 years have been another set of wilderness years for MJ fans for the most part and we’ve had Covid on top of that and all sorts of economical and personal struggles. As Respet said recently, some fans choose to see the negative and be down and cynical about it all. Heck, I’m guilty of it myself as most know, but let’s choose to take the positives from this moment. God knows there few and far between.

Thank you Jaywonder & Co for your review. I appreciate a little critiquing and honest thoughts. I feel Thriller Live in the UK sort of done the same thing with jamming in way too many songs and lacked in story and context. This sort of confirms -for me- that MJ The Musical is a Thriller Live but on a bigger budget. I would prefer more of a life story than song after song that begins to feel like a concert because nobody ever quite does it for me like seeing the real MJ does. But hey, congrats to Myles, cast and crew. I’ll take the hype, hoopla, love-in and positivity it’s bringing. We see it for Beatles, Prince, Stones, Elvis every day of the decade(s), nice to see a bit of love/celebration for MJ.

As your friend says, had they set it at the Bad Tour it would have added a bit more weight given it was MJ’s first solo tour and him wanting to prove to the world -and himself I guess- how great he was.
