I just have to collect vinyls from the acts I like to support but itโs become like collecting stamps or postcards - a hobby without any practical aspect to it. I donโt ever use them - I don't even own a vinyl player.

In my opinion there's no need for physical copies anymore. i think they should exist for collectors which they are for nowadays. i think only problem with digital etc is the fact somethings that was on a physical copy would probably be lost or edited.
as for vinyls teenagers and young adults are getting into record players. so vinyls pretty much popular now again.

I listen to my music online now. as for old tv shows and movies i try to find some of them online. i do have some of my favorite tv shows and movies on dvd and transforming them off vhs which i recorded a long time ago when some of them first aired etc.
it cost alot but it's worth it in my opinion. i'll be happy once the MJ estate start doing this. their WAY late.

I moved to Spotify about 4 or 5 years ago now I think.
I simply adore it, when I think back to being a kid how hard it was to find certain songs, or how many albums I didn't buy as I couldn't afford them, now it's all just....there.
I fully admit, that the romance & beauty of trawling through record stores & the excitement of physical media is sad to a certain extent and I certainly haven't got rid of any CDs. But the benefits & convenience far outweigh that.
The ability to put a playlist of 2000 favourite songs on shuffle for the car, or whilst I'm working or especially on a run is just mind-blowing. And then to think of a song from my past that I never bought but thought I liked and now having it within 2 seconds & loving it is fantastic.
It is infuriating when the song gets taken down but that's only happened twice so far (Madonna's I'm Gonna Tell You a Secret live album has gone for some reason, as has Garbage's The World Is Not Enough).
Also, finding out how to put MP3s on your playlists is a gamechanger.
I don't play my CDs anymore, but I do play my vinyl when I want a chilled out album experience.

I buy MJ records (vinyl, CD) as collector items, but I listen to music on Spotify. It's just a lot more comfortable. As collector items I only buy MJ stuff at this point (though I still have my old CDs of other artists as well) because he's my fave. Everyone else I just listen to Spotify and don't care to buy the physical copy.

Yeah, I was trying to explain my desire to get rid of my CDs and just replace my favourites with vinyl to @liberian Girl and she thought I was cray-cray. "So basically, you're chucking out perfectly good physical formats on CD only to replace them with vinyl?". She didn't get it. But I may have to show her Uncle Tony's post as it hits the nail on the head my need for SOMETHING physical to go along with Spotify.

As much as I keep telling myself to, I rarely listen to full albums on Spotify, the pull just to listen to playlists of stuff where every song is a favourite is just too strong. The vinyl experience forces me to do this. To deliberately choose a specific album and then play it through, usually whilst reading the sleeve, makes for a much more rewarding and meditative time.

Rewarding and meditative. Got it. Slow down, I'm making notes for the missus.
