What do want me to do? Roll over and shit Mars Bars? It's like people including Thriller and Bad in their list of ten best MJ songs. You just know they've never heard Who Is It. Not my fault he didn't release enough albums.

Russ and Tony called me out for showing off my hardcore fan credentials instead of listing a bunch of his most famous/celebrated hits and I replied by basically pointing out that Tony's list looks like he's only heard The Very Best of Prince. At the end of the day, do you not think a hardcore fan who knows every track on every album might have a more comprehensive knowledge of the artists body of work than somebody who's never bothered to explore the artists full canon beyond a compilation or two? I'm not saying this is the case for Tony, btw - that was just banter. But my point remains. I'm pretty sure if this thread had been started on the org instead of here, my list wouldn't have been criticized.

You see it with Michael Jackson polls all the time. People doing crazy things like putting Heaven Can Wait and The Lost Children in their top 10 when you know its bullshit (sic). It's more you saying anyone that likes Bad and Thriller enough to make their top 10 haven't heard the songs you deem to be better than them is more the key here!

You do know you're talking to someone who would put The Lost Children perhaps not in his top ten, but possibly in his top 20, don't ya? For realz.

How can an MJ fan not know any Prince songs? How is that even possible? These days? Honestly, very easily. I was an MJ fan for like 6 years before I started looking into Prince’s discography and was only aware of ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ before that. I attribute that to not having the same lasting cultural impact that MJ would have, but also not making himself easier for the younger generation to discover (he never allowed any of his songs on YouTube, and, aside from a short period on the bigger streaming services beforehand, he was only streaming on Tidal).

I know all that, I guess I just assume that as Prince's name gets brought up quite regularly on MJ sites, that you'd at least take 5 minutes in all the years of being an MJ fan to check out who his greatest opponent was back in the day.

Just because someones an MJ fan, doesn't automatically mean they're going to like Prince. I've heard quite a lot of his stuff, but he's never moved me like MJ has.
