This is quite a lovely post by Quest, one of the good guys. I dunno, it doesn't even sound as if he particularly likes Thriller that much. Plus it's frustrating to read his semi-literate ramblings, he's not nearly as intelligent or as insightful as he thinks he is.

He seems to believe that Thriller just became a monster for MJ and how his life turned out. Thriller a bop, so I don't fully share his sentiments but I just thought it was nice to see a different kind of personal post about Thriller. I honestly hope something out sells it because I hate that "biggest selling album of all time" was given such importance by MJ and subsequently his Estate that it's THE most important thing about Thriller. Thriller is what's in the Groove, not what's written on the sticker. Or in the case of Thriller 25 AND Thriller 40, the actual artwork itself.

He explicitly says that the art holds up. He's more just being critical of its aftermath, both culturally in pop music and personally for MJ. I think it's a bit much to wish Thriller hadn't happened. Despite all of MJs problems, I don't believe he himself would've ever wished that in a million years. MJ was very ambitious and achieved something beyond his wildest dreams with Thriller. That's worth celebrating. Is it a distraction from the art? Only if you let it be.

Without Thriller you wouldn't have the sequence of events that lead to Bad, so I don't know if I would be the fan I am today.

I don't wish that something outsells it (it's nice to have that record), but I agree that it's so much more than its commercial success and it's so frustrating when even his Estate focuses on just that as a selling point. The only more frustrating thing is when his own family members talk about MJ in "the greatest entertainer ever" terms rather than in a warm, intimate manner.

Didn't Jermaine refer to MJ as "the legendary king of pop" during the press conference announcing his passing? That was weird. Still not as bad as Joe using the publicity from his sons death to announce him launching a new girlgroup. And people wonder why MJ was different.....

I keep forgetting that, with Majestik! or however he spelt it. I also keep forgetting that Joe Jackson followed me on Twitter for some reason.

Didn't Jermaine refer to MJ as "the legendary king of pop" during the press conference announcing his passing? That was weird. It’s really not that weird. He did immediately precede it with ‘my brother’: (Joe Jackson using his sons death to sell his latest act was fucking despicable though. I never forgot that).

Same movie genre.

I hate how the Irish article said accusations since his death as if there was no Michael mania at all
