I think all she's saying is that you don't have to post something on social media to show love for someone on their birthday. It's fine if you do, but also fine if you don't. The fact that she's getting attacked by others (some of whom are probably fans) for not explicitly posting something for Michael's birthday is fucked up though. Michael would be massively disappointed in his fans for that. you might want to watch the video again. she said he didn't like celebrating his birthday. i don't agree with people attacking her for not posting on Michael birthday. that's her choice. but to know he didn't like celebrating it she spoke out late. i'm glad she spoke out but it was late because people been celebrating it for years. I did watch it again. I guess I just interpreted it slightly differently based on that "if you don't post on social media it means you don't love someone" bit. I get where she's coming from but just because she says he didn't like his birthday celebrated, everyone else should just never directly acknowledge his birthday publicly again? I'm sure the press would love that: "No love for J*cko on his birthday. Even his fans are abandoning him! Charity work instead of birthday cake? That's dumb lol". I shouldn't have looked at this thread again. Michael's birthday ends in one minute and now my good mood is ruined. Yay...

People live too much on social media, to the extent that if you don't do, for example a performative birthday wish on social media, they question if you even love your loved one. That's crazy IMO.
I never wish my family members happy birthday on social media. I meet them and wish them happy birthday in person. And I also don't wish my dead loved ones happy birthday on social media. I'm thinking of them every day. In fact, I put very little personal stuff on social media because I just don't think that's healthy.
I know MJ is a public figure. Some of his family members, like Prince or TJ wish him happy birthday on social media and that's fine, but that Paris doesn't is also fine. I never questioned her love for her father because of that. Imagine complete strangers doing that and attacking her and questioning her love for her father because he doesn't do performative stuff on social media! So crazy. Fans need to know their place sometimes.
As for people celebrating or not celebrating his birthday, I don't think what Paris said here will make them stop celebrating, nor should it. Like said, to her he was a father, to us he's an icon, a public figure and that's a different kind of relationship. MJ himself had an ambivalent relationship to birthday celebrations. Yes, he was a JW until 1987, and maybe he didn't celebrate his birthday privately even after that, but he didn't decline fans' birthday celebration on stage in 1997...
So yeah, let everyone celebrate or not celebrate the way they want.

So yeah, let everyone celebrate or not celebrate the way they want. Nor did MJ decline fan club birthday celebration events or cards sent by fans, etc. His 45th, for example. Michael clearly understood it was part of the Star-Fan relationship and a bonding thing. That became more important to him after August 1993 than ever before. Today, all we can do is mark or celebrate his birthday. Personally, I mark it by listening to his music, but I don't celebrate it.

No, we've ALWAYS known this! Paris didn't say anything new, you know. The KOP compilations was done for his 50th, but MJ didn't want Sony to refer to his birthday at all in PR. Michael always graciously received fan well wishes. Jesus wept! 🤦♂️
