I think she’s overrated too, but good for her for success. I feel the same. It's good to see a pop star that's drawing such big crowds and seems to be a mostly positive influence. Although I do think the overexposure/backlash is starting to set in some. Was Usher's half-time performance really that bad? Even if it was, pretty weird to bring up Taylor Swift when you're talking about... a performance that in no fucking way involved her. ...she's gonna perform at the Halftime Show next year, isn't she? >.> Like, that's the one big thing she hasn't done yet.

There’s been backlash since she won album of the year, it’s not fair, and I say this as a non fan

One thing that dawned on me watching the WATW documentary and then the Wham documentary was just how full of talent and great, charismatic personalities 80s popular was compared to today. Taylor is so huge with her mediocre talent because she has hardly any competition. (That, and I also blame Kanye for her rise. LOL.) Maybe Beyonce but she too is lost for a while. Overall it feels like there are about 4-5 top stars at max (and I might be generous with that number). It's always the same few faces, same people being at award shows, getting the awards, getting hyped. Taylor, Beyonce, Adele when she feels like making a new album, maybe The Weeknd, Sam Smith (LOL), Ed Sheeran. That's about it. And most of them are boring and bland (yeah, it's subjective, but that's how I feel about them). Yeah, maybe it's old people's "in my time everything was better" whining, but in this case I think there's a good case to be made that the level of talent in popular music just isn't what it used to be. Re. Taylor, I think she heavily builds on her teenage girl fandom and serves them teen soap opera with her revolving door of boyfriends which is probably what makes her interesting for that demographic. Basically her shtick is to get a new boyfriend every few months, break up with them and then write breakup songs about them. www.elle.com.au/culture/celebrity/taylor-swift-ex-boyfriends-19285/But it works, so why not, I guess.

I hear you about age. My favourite current artists are Beyoncé, the weeknd and Bruno Mars, I don’t care for the likes of Ed sheeran, he’s overrated too

I don't really care about her music but she sure likes polluting the planet by taking jet trips to the local corner store.

I saw her in concert a few times over the course of her first few albums. She makes decent pop music that I don't have anything against. The hype machine is what it is. We all know the media picks their favorite and runs them into the ground. Eventually everyone will turn on her, she'll go through some terrible stuff and the same media outlets will all run the "TAYLOR SWIFT - WHAT WENT WRONG??" TV specials and news articles.
The beat goes on...

When she announced her upcoming album I recall seeing quite a bit of criticism over the song titles, calling them and her immature, "why is she still acting like she's 17?"-type of comments, etc. I feel you on the age bit too. My main music rotation consists of video game soundtracks, anime soundtracks, J-Pop, rock (mainly prog and metal), and Western pop music that's all over ten years old. The newest release I recall listening to is that one new song Guns N' Roses did, and I already forgot what it sounded like.

because white America see her as their Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, etc.
it's nothing new. been going on since Kanye said both Michael and Beyoncé are great artists.
which in my opinion he's right. i wouldn't say Beyoncé is the greatest artist of all time. i see Michael that. but i like her older albums.
also, they see Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce as their win for a couple. a singer and a football player.
so yeah that's pretty much why. i'm not a fan just a black American.

Not one white person I know thinks of Taylor Swift as their Michael Jackson.

I listened to some TS songs today to see if I'm missing something. Nope, I'm still not missing anything.

She’s being treated like goddamn Beatles. She is so damn bland and annoying. I’m dumbfounded over the hype surrounding her. The type of success she’s having is astronomical. People are close to sacrificing their first borns to get tickets to one of her crap shows. It’s not like it’s only young kids who are into her. That I could understand. It’s everyone. Has the entertainment industry gotten THAT bad that people are willing to sit through garbage? I don’t get the cult of Beyonce either, but that’s another story.

It's nothing to do with the quality of the music. It's people driving themselves in a frenzy over something because "everyone else is doing it" and there's a fear of missing out. And yes, the entertainment industry got so bad that this mediocrity what the new "stand out" is.
