Here is a guy who is the most gifted musical artist of all time and for the last 15yrs of his life he was seemingly more interested in "doing film" than anything music related.
I guess it's human nature to always want what you can't have, but MJ should've realised by the mid-90s that he could never be cast as anything other than himself. It just felt like a spit in the face to his God given talents in music to act like it was such a chore to do music and touring when it was obviously what he was born to do.

No, because his interest in films is what made him the pioneer in music video making that he was and the creator of the greatest music videos/short films of all time.

Why on Earth would you be annoyed by anyone else's interests?

I guess it's human nature to always want what you can't have, but MJ should've realised by the mid-90s that he could never be cast as anything other than himself. It just felt like a spit in the face to his God given talents in music to act like it was such a chore to do music and touring when it was obviously what he was born to do. I don't think MJ ever lost his passion for making music. Granted he did less of it in his final years, but never stopped completely. That handwritten list of unfinished songs he had in his mansion proves he wasn't spent creatively, as far as music was concerned. But his time was more divided with fatherhood. Plus as someone who had been in the industry since the late 60s, it's no great surprise he wanted to slow things down. He was pretty much married to his music career through the 70s, 80s and 90s. Three decades. Reminds me of the lyrics to a fantastic Van Hunt song, which I always believed to be about MJ: "Give em what they want, and all they want is more. No matter what you give it all falls short." Other lyrics from the song heavily imply it was written about MJ. I asked him recently on Twitter if it was about MJ and he wouldn't confirm or deny it, which I took as confirmation lol.

No, can't say I do, to be honest. By that point in his life, Michael had achieved everything there was to achieve in his career.
Nobody else before or since comes close.
Only natural Michael looked for a new challenge and film just happened to be one. Yes, he originally wanted to be a lead actor, but he understood that wasn't going to happen for him which is why he talked about doing film scores, producing and directing - behind the camera work. It would have suited him after TII.

It always reminded me of how Michael Jordan at the peak of his basketball career suddenly left the NBA to pursue his lifelong dream of playing Major League Baseball. That's just the nature of driven and competitive people, they're never satisfied and often seek new mountains to conquer. Michael loved film and it was his lifelong passion.

Not annoying but maybe a little unrealistic. I wish we could have gotten one more album

The only annoying thing about it is all the unfulfilled plans he had about movies. There was that Edgar Allen Poe movie he was tied to and some sort of Pinocchio movie, too. Kind of a shame those never came to fruition.

I agree with respect77, without his passion for film, there'd have been no Thriller, no Smooth Criminal, no Ghosts, no Bad, none of the legendary shortfilms which changed the face of popular music. MJ was the most visually accomplished artist in the history popular music and that was a massive reason for his universal appeal.

Hahaha, I literally laughed out loud. I needed that this morning, thanks Ah you are here. Good. Hope you are well? We're OK and it's looking better for us. Anything can happen BUT for now, it's looking like the storm will happen over might and head further south of us.
