I thought I would open a thread for these kind of topics, so that we don't have to have a seperate one for each of them whenever there are such news. ARTISTS RANKING – STREAMING 1. I think that's most of their fan base are the older people who still consume music in the traditional way. But I glad MJ broke through that and he is doing well on the other two list as well. Him and Queen out of the classic acts. (Queen is just off the Top 25 in the streaming chart. They are at #26.)

Man, what a fascinating website. It's a shame it's quite annoying to navigate but at least it gives some great perspective. For those who are confused by the streaming numbers (as the streaming numbers put Michael at 3.6 million, but we know he has 17 million on Spotify alone), those are the equivalent album sales generated by the streaming numbers, using a formula they have posted on the link Respect. Here's another important list, which is everything combined! Physical + digital + streaming. ARTISTS RANKING – CSPC – OVERALL SALES1. The Beatles – 405,737,000 (update: Mar 2017) 2. Michael Jackson – 323,741,000 (update: Sep 2017) 3. Madonna – 241,135,000 (update: Aug 2017) 4. Queen – 238,637,000 (update: Oct 2017) 5. The Rolling Stones – 237,135,000 (update: Dec 2016) 6. Pink Floyd – 229,426,000 (update: Jun 2017) 7. Led Zeppelin – 200,459,000 (update: Aug 2016) 8. U2 – 194,519,000 (update: Aug 2016) 9. Céline Dion – 193,422,000 (update: Sep 2016) 10. Eagles – 171,069,000 (update: Dec 2017) 11. Mariah Carey – 167,149,000 (update: Apr 2017) 12. Bruce Springsteen – 157,024,000 (update: Jul 2017) 13. Bee Gees – 156,874,000 (update: Apr 2017) 14. ABBA – 156,623,000 (update: Nov 2016) 15. Eminem – 154,954,000 (update: Aug 2016) 16. Whitney Houston – 151,693,000 (update: May 2017) 17. Billy Joel – 146,695,000 (update: Oct 2016) 18. Fleetwood Mac – 144,842,000 (update: Oct 2016) 19. Bon Jovi – 144,095,000 (update: Nov 2016) 20. Bob Dylan – 142,291,000 (update: Oct 2016) 21. Metallica – 139,406,000 (update: Aug 2016) 22. Bob Marley – 135,464,000 (update: Nov 2017) 23. David Bowie – 125,785,000 (update: Jan 2017) 24. Guns N’ Roses – 117,211,000 (update: Jun 2016) 25. George Michael & Wham! – 104,743,000 (update: May 2017) However it's important to note this website is only accounting for artists they have researched, so the list is incomplete and you can see this as most notably, they're missing Elvis from the list above, Michael's biggest solo competitor. It wouldn't surprise me tbh if Michael was closing in on Elvis' gap given how extremely well Michael has done commercially over the past decade. I read somewhere from a commenter on there that it's going to be a nightmare given the insane number of random compilations in his back catalogue, but I digress. Talking about classic artists, this website had me curious about The Beatles (two guesses why ) and their placement on the streaming list, so using the website's formula and the statistics from their dedicated article on them, I did some calculations and arrived at the sum of 1,695,042 equivalent album sales. That's pretty great given it only accounts for a mere 15 months, when their music arrived on Spotify and a month after all their YouTube stats were reset (as their label took down all non-officially uploaded videos with their music in it, started uploading a small portion of official videos). However I was further curious because this was measured in March 2017, Michael was measured 6 months later in September. So assuming The Beatles continue on a steady rate from March to September 2017 (which I don't think is true as they had a successful Sgt. Peppers reissue in that meantime), this would push their equivalent album sales to 2,358,658. Even if Michael is still a whopping 1.3 million ahead (and given he's streamed more, over time he'll accrue these 'sales' at a faster rate), I still think it's pretty remarkable! So if Queen, who were measured in October 2017, is just out of view at #26, then Beatles shouldn't be that further down. Hovering around the #30-#31 mark perhaps? Going off the average difference between artists from 20-25. Going back to Michael however, I've always liked how his sales in general have just been so far ahead of those below him, and it's evidential in the overall sales on this website as well, where you see that Michael is literally 82 million sales ahead of Madonna, who is right below him. It's pretty cool!

It is a shame that Michael really is the only classic artist on the 1st chart, I care for none of the others. Sad that Prince does not make any of the charts.

Sad that Prince does not make any of the charts. It doesn't help he was highly restrictive of his music when it came to modern streaming services , which is predominantly how young people today discover new music. I find Prince notably absent from the 'legacy artists' I see my friends and acquaintances into and I think being more open to these services, having his content on there when he died would've helped a massive deal. So many people my age wanted to see what the big fuss around him was about, but when they look him up on Spotify they see this random song for the Happy Feet soundtrack... and nothing else. So they move on, then society moves on from his death and well, yeah. Back to square one. Despite what his fans say, it's so much better for his legacy now that he's on there. Michael Jackson on the other hand, his music's actually been on Spotify since... 2008/2009? Spotify didn't take off until many years later mind you, but also given the fact he was always on YouTube, he was so easily accessible and I think it's played a big part over the years when it comes to young people discovering him (and thus helped his positions on the charts). I mentioned in the ballad thread about showing an ex-girlfriend Speechless who instantly fell in love with it and came to appreciate Michael as an artist more. Guess through what method I showed her the song? Streaming is king these days.

If you post a comment here (http://chartmasters.org/2017/10/cspc-sticky-thread-for-requests/) asking for Prince then it'll add to his total. Unfortunately, other artists are ahead of him by a decent distance.

Someone made a list of MJ and other classic acts (ie. 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s artists) on various streaming services. MJ is #1 on all but Spotify where he is #2 behind Queen.

Here's an amazing fact....
Number Ones has risen three places to number 59 on this weeks UK top 100 album chart, spending it's 347th week in the chart. That's almost four years!
Looking at other Greatest Hits in the chart this week, you have:
George Michael - TwentyFive (68 weeks on the chart) The Beatles - 1 (168 weeks on the chart) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Greatest Hits (130 weeks) Bryan Adams - Ultimate (12 weeks) David Bowie - Legacy (80 weeks) Whitney Houston - The Ultimate Collection (242 weeks) Guns N Roses - Greatest Hits (302 weeks) Queen - Greatest Hits (827 weeks) Bob Marley - Legend (827 weeks)
^^^
Queens Greatest Hits has been out for 37 years and Bob Marley's compilation for 34 years. Imagine how many weeks Number Ones will have spent on the chart by the time it's been out for that long!

Never would've thought TDCAU would overtake Billie Jean in views, and certainly not by this amount! I'm really glad the songs gained a bit of traction this past half decade, even if it's (sadly) because of terrible events around the world here and there.
