Although none of these Prince albums compare to my favourite 90s album - Dangerous, it is not even close.

Triumph, which would you rate higher, his 90s output or his 00s output?

That is hard, as both have their highlights (By 00s I assume you mean everything to 20Ten only and not the 4 2010s albums)?
The 2000s gave us the Lotusflow3r project and 3121, but the 90s had the Gold Experience, Lovesymbol, Come, Diamonds and Pearls and the better songs on Rave and Emancipation - so it will be the 90s with me MattyJam - what about you. For me there is just too much good stuff in the 90s to ignore and the 2000s were patchy, I didn't like Musicology, Planet Earth is Average, 20Ten had 3 good songs and the NPGMC and ONA sets bore me. Don't even ask about TRC.
It is the same with Michael, the decade 1985 - 1995 was perfect and I can say that with Prince except for a couple of weak cuts on some albums.

Overall ratings
Prince 1970s - 7/10 Good, he was learning his craft 1980s - 10/10 The Peak, the decade was Princes 1990s - 8/10 Hit and Miss, but enough magic left 2000s - 5ยฝ/10 Devotion is hard, but enough moments of brilliance 2010s - 7ยฝ/10 Prince's maturity bought decent music, but nothing like the 80s or even 90s.
MJ 1970s - 8ยฝ/10 Evolved from a great child star to an impressive adult one (And yes I know I want you back was from the very end of 69, but hit the Top 10 only in January 1970 - so really its a 70s sound. 1980s - 10/10 Again like Prince, this decade was his as well. 1990s - 9ยฝ/10 Unlike Prince, Michael kept it hot through the 90s, releasing a grown up sound that had lost none of its punch 2000s - 6/10 After Invincible, it was sadly down hill with some patchy re releases and awful posthumous album. Icon, This is it etc, Thriller 25 - an abortion 2010s - 4/10 - Apart from Xsacpe, the Posthumous Michael industry has not been kind to his legacy.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with most of that. Much of Prince's 00s work left me depressingly cold, but there's the odd moment of greatness. The 90s albums, whilst inconsistent, were never bland. There's a lot of blandness throughout his 00s work. I agree Musicology is very ordinary and the only song worth keeping on 20Ten is the exquisite Future Soul Song - a song which really highlights how mediocre the rest of the material on the album is by comparison. I did really enjoy 3121 and I felt Planet Earth was underrated by many fans. There were moments of greatness on both Lotusflow3r and MPLSoUND as well. But on the whole, not one single album from the 00s stands up to The Gold Experience, Come, Rave, Love Symbol or Emancipation imo.

Mostly yes, but there is one single in the 00s that rises above the mire and that is "Black Sweat" that sexy and sweaty song was the perfect answer to 1986's Kiss. With a catchy beat and Prince singing in his best falsetto, it was a winner all the way and actually spent a few weeks in the lower reaches of the Hot 100 (Peaking at #69) and doing well in the R&B charts, plus it was off 3121, his funkiest and best album since The Gold Experience. Incredibly Te Amo Corazon made it up to #50, and Fury made 85 or something, but with the #1 placing of the album it seemed immaterial, yet it sunk fast and the album barely shipped Gold compared to the mega success of Musicology (Mostly because that album was given away with concert tickets - Billboard changed their rules after that, but the fact someone like Prince who had not really had a chart hit since 1995 could sell 2 million concert tickets - is testament to his true majesty as a performer).
I just really love that thing, it was what bought me back from 8 years of wavering with Prince between 1998 when I went off him a bit and late 2005, when I got back into him. I have remained into him since. Then again the 90s had many brilliant singles like Thieves in the Temple, Gett Off, Cream, Insatiable, D and P, Money don't matter 2 nite, Sexy Mf, The morning papers, 7, Peach, Letitgo, Space, TMBGITW and Eye Hate U. It is 1 versus about 12.
So tell me MattyJam are you workin' up a black sweat?

It is 1 versus about 12. So tell me MattyJam are you workin' up a black sweat? Y'know, weirdly enough, 3121 actually left me cold for the longest time. It is only since his passing that I went back and found that I actually enjoyed it more than I initially gave it credit for. It's difficult when an artist like Prince puts out a new record, there is so much expectation and he had so much to live up to with each new release. At some stage, it had to be daunting for him to look at a catalogue that contains modern pop classics such as Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Kiss, Sign O The Times and realise that essentially, he was just competing with himself. "My only competition is, well, me in the past" - Don't Play Me. Yeah, Black Sweat was a great single, possibly his last great single. I can't help but feel as if this song was released by a younger act, like Timberlake or Usher, it would've been huge.
