Never actually sat down and listened to a Taylor Swift album. Just don't interest me. I got into Timberlake this year - that's enough getting over myself for one year. Back to the dad rock for me. Godsmack sound hardcore but they're about as edgy as that Bon Jovi country album. I’ve worn out the Pet Shop Boys album the past 5 or 6 days. It’s back to Hackney Diamonds for me until I get my head together. What I’d do for a new GNR album! I’d do a lot Mathew. I’d possibly suck off yourself or Tony for one! But it’s never gonna happen is it? They’re destined for the nostalgia stadium act abyss. A deep endless chasm. An endless dark void. I mean how on Earth do you go from Appetite, Lies, Illusion's 1 & 2, Spag bollocks to nothing, nada, zilch, zero, Axl, endless, hero….. ya know? You forgot Chinese Democracy! I know, I know, no Slash, but I still loved it. I remember seeing an interview with Axl circa early 90s (prior to the release of Illusions) and he said how he wanted to put out a lot of music in a very short time frame so then he wouldn't feel pressured to keep chasing it for the rest of his life. I guess he really meant what he said, cuz he's done one album of original material since then. I'd love a new GNR record, but yeah Aaron, I think Axl likes scratching his ass and eating taco's more than making music 2009-2024 and I don't see that changing.

I did listen to Pink Floyd's The Wall yesterday but it got to heavy for me man. I don’t need no education, Vera and all that jazz. I was positively numb from it. Comfortably, I might add. I could never get into Floyd. I know they're a big favourite of russtcb, but they were always a bit too... serious?... for my liking. I mean, lighten up fellas, it's just a bit of fun, y'know?!

Floy’d can be like walking a tightrope. It’s a fine balancing act to get the frequency right, but when and if you can tap into it, they can reach into some strange realms in your mind. You’ve been through a lot. Put on a pair of headphones, listen to Comfortably Numb, listen to the lyrics and understand it’s implications and you might just find that it’s so deep you may never come back. When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone When I heard this lyric it absolutely devastated me because in that moment it mirrored my minds eye. I was a fucking wreck. The song became the inner voice in my head. You have to be willing to go there.

Hackney Diamonds has finally started to click for me over the past few days. I thought it was a good effort when it was released, but just couldn't quite get into it. We've had some nice sunny weather and Mess It Up has been that perfect pre-summer track. Love Charlie's drums on this and that funky "really wanna hear it" break. Reminds me of a lot of their disco/funk-inspired period in the mid/late 70's. Favorite from that era:

You’re speaking my language!

Hackney Diamonds did help me get into and "understand" where they were coming from with albums like Some Girls etc. Never used to like that side of The Stones, but I listened to that album a lot a few months back and totally got it.

I pretty much love the entire Hackney Diamonds album. I love the way Get Close builds into those harmonies towards the end.

I’ll have to make an effort to listen to more Stones at some point. I’m not really the biggest fan of them. I don’t dislike them, they just never clicked much with me.

Ooooh Aaron, listen to Sweet Virginia!!! I love that song. My favourite Stones song and possibly in my top 20 songs by anyone, ever.

Yourself and SmoothGansta got me into Chinese. Sublime album! Love it love it love it! What’s SmoothGansta’s actually name? Smooth, I’m Aaron pleased to meet you. This is my friend Mathew Jam please to meet you. Surely to god between the 3 of em they’ve got 10 ideas worth of songs? They are afraid! Fuck it, work with Max Martin if that’s what it takes! There is such a need for a new Guns album.
