Defibrillators being installed all over the place. This has been ongoing in Ireland for the past 15-20 years actually. It started off in sport pitches and community centres and in the past 5 years the number of them that have been installed on busy streets has massively increased. There are 2 houses on our road with one as we had a sad incident 20 years ago where one may have helped. Given how many young people die unexpectedly playing sports even, every single sports site should have one, and every town should too. You never know when the ticker will crash. Everyone should know where their nearest defib is. They're also so easy to use - the machines literally guide you through what to do.

Defibrillators being installed all over the place. Invented by a Northern Ireland man: That's the guy to thank! π

A literal lifesaver in rural areas especially. Yup. One of our neighbours runs his own business, he modifies houses for people with disabilities and the elderly and he also does safety equipment. Nice guy. He's already proven to be worth his weight in gold as a neighbour was able to call on him a couple of years ago when their elderly relative collapsed and a debiffrillator was required. Ambulance would have taken 20+ minutes, he was at the door in less than 4 so there could have been a very different ending there.
