"Finally found out".....the lyrics have been in the CD booklet since 1991. Yes, it is a magical moment. But the final 2 minutes of Who Is It and the gospel crescendo of WYBT take precedence. Thank you for giving it love though. It's a nice FU to the 'poor man's MITM brigade' (you know who you are). My CD's have been in storage for at least a decade, so I haven't looked at the booklet in a long, long time. Spotify has lyrics on all of MJs songs which is very convenient. I always thought you were in the 'poor-mans MITM brigade' tbh, or was that Nigel/Aaron? It's a very lazy parallel to deduce, other than the fact that they both have the same songwriters and a gospel choir, they're not that similar really. Musically, they're completely different and both songs have a very different message. The arrangement of the the choir and how they interweave with MJs lead vocals... it's the stuff of genius. Utter sonic brilliance. I disagree that it's a lazy parallel though, each to their own. I do like the song but think he was ticking too many of the MITM boxes with this one.

New addition to Matty's top ten MJ songs: Blood On The Dancefloor Always loved it but lately I'm thinking it's a serious contender for the lower regions of the top ten. My Top 5 of HIStory, TDCAU, Billie Jean, Earth Song and Who Is It remains unchanged though. Exciting stuff. Out of curiosity, what would round out your top ten?

Also really loving Threatened at the minute. Definitely a top 5 track from Invincible. Threatened is absolutely a top-tier track from his later career. HIStory onwards, it's the song I'd want to see a video for the most. Unbreakable and Tabloid Junkie too!

Yeah it'd have been fascinating to see where else he could've taken the horror genre with a music video for Threatened. I know people would've accused him of retreading old ground, but I don't see it that way. Nobody says that if an artist releases 50 different love songs throughout their career, ya know?

I don't really consider Threatened to be retreading old ground, to be honest. Least it never pops up in my mind (unlike when I listen to, say, Privacy). I mean yeah I guess it's horror-ish but I think the song itself is certainly quite interesting and unique enough creatively to stand on it's own (I just love their use of Serling's narration and how they edited it to make something new). If an artist is going to retread old ground topically, they should try and make it different enough to what came before and Threatened certainly does satisfy that for me.
And I've thought about the 'love song' thing when discussing retreading old ground but I dunno. Perhaps unfairly, I take an exception to that rule since love can be a complex topic and it's arguably one of the most universal or relatable. While I don't want it to be a singer's only topic they sing about (diversity is good!), I have noticed I've never really thought 'ugh another love song?' before.

I love that Michael had specific topics for a lot of his songs. Noone else I can think of has that. I've always said I'd have loved to have seen a themed concert split into specific segments like Madonna does. Dance: WBSS Jam Billie Jean Off The Wall Rock: Beat It Dirty Diana Give In To Me Black or White Horror: Thriller Ghosts Is It Scary Threatened Gangster: Dangerous Blue Gangsta Smooth Criminal You Rock My World Conscious: TDCAU Heal The World Earth Song Man In The Mirror

I mean, the only reason you think "gangster" with YRMW is because of the video for example. But whilst many of the other songs you listed are obviously about the specific themes you mentioned, the visual aids and imagery definitely helped bring those songs to life even more vividly if you know what I mean?

This! My friend is having a 60s/70s themed birthday party soon so I'm helping make the playlist. Was looking for Jacksons songs to add and ever since adding this one to the playlist, it's been on repeat non-stop!
I just love how it starts off slow and it slowly starts building up, getting more and more groovy, before BOOM it just explodes and you just can't help but dance!
