It's a funny one, it was actually Mick's voice that turned me off at first. I usually think he's a great singer, but there were a few moments on my first listen where I felt he sounded a little hokey. I mean, the guy is 80yrs old for Christ sake and for the most part, he manages to sound pretty decent. But when I played it out loud last night for Fiona (her first listen), her first remarks were "he can't really sing anymore, can he?". So it's not just me...
Honestly, the brass neck! But Axl Rose and Madonna are Luciano Pavarotti right? Both of you can fuck right off! Mick is an 80 year old! He’s an Octogenarian for christ sakes! I mean far be it from me to engage in tit for tat -oh but you do Aaron- but come the fuck on! Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves! It’s like going to an old folks home and criticising 100 year old Agatha for not walking right because she uses a walking frame! SoCav, please escort Bonnie & fucking Clyde from the building! Poor Agatha is in floods! Calm down you old Mary. I did acknowledge that he sounded decent for his age. Not sure why you brought Madonna into it, as if I've ever championed her as a great singer. Fair point about Axl, although to be fair, he always sounds good on studio recordings. I can't and won't apologise for initial impressions. I love me some Stones and have faithfully listened to their music for years. Hackney Diamonds is the first Stones album I've listened to where I felt that Mick sounded a bit lacking. I always ask myself, when judging new music by veteran acts, would someone starting out looking for a record deal get signed on the strength of this material? And whilst the songs themselves have grown on me a little, there's no way in hell an A&R guy would listen to the vocals Mick turned in on Hackney Diamonds and think "we must sign this guy right away." There's glimpses of the old Mick, that character voice that made him so charismatic etc. But there's other times where he sounds no better than a pub band singer. Sorry, not sorry.

And whilst the songs themselves have grown on me a little, there's no way in hell an A&R guy would listen to the vocals Mick turned in on Hackney Diamonda and think "we must sign this guy right away." There's glimpses of the old Mick, that character voice that made him so charismatic. But there's other times where he sounds no better than a pub band singer. You're delusional if you think otherwise. Eh, excuse me fucking Dorris Day! Madonna was aimed at Fiona, Axl was aimed at you! Mick is 80! On what planet is a record company signing a band with a combined age of 890! Mick’s voice isn’t so much “where he’s going to” it’s more “where he’s come from” You think Axl is getting a record deal in this day and age? Get the fuck outta here!

Live, he was always pitchy, even in his heyday. Like I say, there are moments on the new record where Mick sounds really good. But I'd be lying if I said he sounded great throughout, cuz he really doesn't. You wanna talk brass neck? This is the same board where folks bitched about MJ's singing on Invincible. Fair enough if it ain't your favourite record, but lets be real here, MJ could sing Mick under the table, at 8 years old, 40 years old and probably even as a corpse.

Could Michael not sing Axl under the table? Madonna? I’ve heard Axl live recently. Pitchy? The guy can’t sing for shit! And why is it always a contest that comes back to MJ? And…. Invincible! Fucking Invincible! What is this weird fan obsession with it? Mick is in a rock band for the love of gawd! Who goes to Jagger for perfect vocals? You go to Jagger surely for rock n role and attitude. I don’t want or care about perfect vocals. I want real individuals who sound distinct and have their own unique style. The man is 80! Michael was lip syncing an entire tour at 38! 🤦🏻♂️ I have nothing against it but come on man!!

The fact is @mattyjam, you love this new Stones album a lot more than you thought you would yet still feel the need to rule your heart with your brain. You just need to feel this, not psychoanalyse it!
