Maybe I am paranoid, but I am starting to be suspicious of Spotify. I have a huge Mixtape playlist that I usually play in shuffle mode. I have 10 or 11 MJ songs on it, which is the most for any artist but when I shuffle the list nowadays it NEVER plays MJ songs. I just tried it now, shuffled it over 10 times one after another and it NEVER put an MJ song among the 50 songs in the queue that are visible that it would play. So I wonder what is going on.
It does list Janet or J5 songs, but not MJ. NEVER.
So I do wonder if they put some restriction on MJ songs. Hm.
If this is true and "randomized" play is really prioritized then I wonder if MJ has been put on low priority since LN.
Edit: I have refreshed my shuffle for like 20 times now. NOT ONCE did it put MJ on the queue among the Top 50. NOT ONCE!
Edit2: I tried it with my 80s and 70s playlists and they did put MJ on the queue. So maybe it is just an issue with that particular playlist.

I was listening to a summer playlist last week during work and it has thousands of songs and MJ came on frequently so yeah it might just be the playlist?

Yes, probably. My other mixed playlists do put him on the queue. Thankfully. It is easy to get paranoid these days as an MJ fan. LOL.

respect77 It's possibly just that playlist, especially as he comes up for other playlists. If you're really worried you could DM them (@spotifycares), or select them all (Ctrl-A or Command-A on Mac), drag them into a newly made playlist and see how that goes. Keep in mind, Spotify doesn't just 'randomise' a playlist or album in a generic fashion, they actually have a whole blog post dedicated to how they do it, the algorithms and all that: labs.spotify.com/2014/02/28/how-to-shuffle-songs/
Now I jumped on your Spotify link above and found a 'Mixtape' playlist, chucked that on shuffle and looked at my queue a handful of times. Maybe 7-9 times? MJ did come on a few times, highest at #5, then at #68, #80 and #14 in the various times he did show up afterwards. It did feel like the Jacksons/J5 were more prominent but who knows. Looking at that blog post above, and at the diagrams, it seems they try to spread artists out in a playlist. So even if you have MJ 11/473 times, it seems they focus on trying to get an even mix of artists? And therefore that's why MJ might not be as prominent as one might think? They do say they noticed people didn't like artist repeating within a short period after all.
When it comes to my non-MJ specific playlists that he is apart of, I haven't noticed any lack of MJ. I don't think Spotify has an agenda against MJ. My reasons for this being they haven't announced any action against him (like R Kelly), and also because they are also still publishing playlists made by their company that feature him in it.

Thanks.
BTW:
I am listening to my 70s playlist now and it did queue ABBA songs back-to-back, for example.
Also, look at Pink Floyd here:
Or David Bowie here.
Or Elton John here.
There are a couple of others like that.
So I am not sure if that works. LOL. It did put MJ on queue now, but only one song, while with others it queues them like the above. It is weird. But maybe it is a coincidence. My feeling is that MJ does come on a lot more rarely on shuffled mixed playlists than others - even though he features heavily on my playlist.
