Shes really trying her best, and any adult that insults her is a gobshite. Shes a child doing far more than I ever have Well this is 100% accurate isn’t it? innuendo141 must try harder.

I feel sorry for her. People do not seem to realize that this is not an average child, who just happens to be very passionate about climate change. This is a girl with Asperger's and OCD. Her UN speech is being lauded for its passionate delivery, but imo what's on display there is genuine fear and anxiety. Not the type that the average person may feel about issues they care about - the type you feel strongly about but that does not wholly consume you - but the type stemming from the obsessiveness that characterizes her developmental disorder. Her obsession with climate change was cited as being a big part of the reason why she became severely depressed, stopped eating and going to school, and refused to speak to anyone outside of her family and a teacher, when she was 11. All alarm bells should have gone off at that point, and she should have been protected. Instead, she was hoisted into the spotlight. All the attention she is receiving now, both the negative (ridiculous mockery etc) and positive, won't do her any good imo. I feel she's being exploited. Agree. The Thunberg family is very strange and we're talking about a girl like Greta who suddenly stopped eating as her mother recalled in their book. Greta only started eating properly again when her family became vegan, stopped flying and so on as part of Greta's climate change protest. That sounds a lot like emotional manipulation of the entire family by this one girl. Seems like Greta uses a lot of manipulative tactics against people very consistently on this serious issue too. Hence, the reactions against her. Greta also stopped talking to other kids and refused to talk to other people apart from family and a single teacher before she was 11. Depression by 11 because she obsesses over climate change. Quite extreme behaviour which will also lead to confirmation bias. I don't think Greta helps make anything relating to climate change any clearer. IMO, she and her family are now very counterproductive. High on demands and low on solutions. Her mother also said Greta can see carbon dioxide - literally. This is increasingly looking like the Cult of St Greta as many sarcastically refer to her. But SoCav is correct about exploitation. Manipulation too.

I don't know much about Greta but from the above post I would not necessarily make the conclusion she is the manipulator here, I sense it is more a family thing. That Greta takes climate change to heart this much, to the point of what looks like psychosis (depression, severe anxiety, insomnia) is definitely not normal, but I don't blame this on a child with Aspergers and Autism but on her parents. Who knows what they filled her head with that resulted in this severe fear of climate change? But I feel her parents might be irresponsible in what they fill her head with.
And I don't mean that you should not talk with your child about the issue, that's not the point, but if she is autistic, has Aspergers, maybe obsessive, you might want to be careful in how much of a scary scenario you paint for them.

If you read how her mother, Malena, tells the story in 'Scenes from the Heart’which is co-authored by Greta, it sounds like it all comes from Greta herself. That she has OCD and Aspergers makes it more likely that Greta has worried herself sick over it to the point where she stopped going to school, talking to others and eating rather than her parents indoctrinating her into it. Her mother's words: “From one day to the next, Greta suddenly stopped eating. “Due to her eating disorder, we had to count the number of gnocchi balls on her plate to check if she would eat enough. It used to take her up to an hour to eat a third of a banana.” For parents, this is a scary thing. Especially when you have girls. All of this only changed after Greta pleaded with her family for some time to change their lifestyle to save the world. Certainly sounds like Greta got her parents into it all as opposed to the other way round. Manipulative behaviour in my book.

Greta heard about climate change at school and converted her family through her behaviours such as refusing to eat as described previously. www.dw.com/en/family-memoir-explores-childhood-of-climate-activist-greta-thunberg/a-48592700Her Aspergers means she obsesses over it without relent. Not only is she exploited and exploiting others, but she'll burn out before long. Personally, I do not think she's a good role model for young girls with her refusal to eat until she got what she wanted from her family. She's a vulnerable person who shouldn't be in the limelight, imo.

They try to turn Aspergers and the obsessive way she handles the topic with into a good and cute thing, but it is not. It's a psychological illness.

As for the debate between scientists, I just read via NASA (http://go.nasa.gov/2XvevxR) that 97% of them agree it is human are behind climate change. I just saw this video about this 97% claim. It breaks down the sources that NASA references and addresses what the problem is with them:
The relevant part starts at around 15:30.
