I rarely see this book discussed on forums, I don't even know what fans think about it...
Do you own it? And more important: do you like it?
I have just finished reading it for the fifth time and it still makes me emotional.
Along with the albums and magazines,it was the best birthday present ever lol

It's been a long time I have read it. I like it more than Moonwalk. More revealing about MJ, IMO.

Yeah I think Moonwalk was great, but Dancing the Dream really reveals what was inside of him.
It's sad that many people haven't read that book, even fans sleep on it

I bought mine on first release & like my Bad Tour program has disappeared over time.
It was a nice accompaniment to Dangerous. Like Respect says, it probably reveals more about MJ than Moonwalk, especially his mind at the time...concerned with state of the world etc.

You know, I had no idea that book existed when I got it for my birthday last year. I was really surprised that MJ did not only speak/sing about these topics. I had no idea he would write poems, that he could draw and beatbox etc. God it's still great to discover everything about this man!
Love all the poems, especially Planet Earth and When Babies smile.

Michael said during the simulchat he did in 1995 about Dancing the Dream when asked if he was planning to write another book:
"I wrote a book called Dancing the Dream. It was more autobiographical than Moonwalk, which I did with Mrs. Onassis. It wasn't full of gossip and scandal and all that trash that people write so I don't think people paid much attention to it, but it came from my heart. It was essays, thoughts, and things that I've thought about while on tour. I'm not planning to write another book anytime soonโฆโ

^ I wish there would have been a book by MJ somewhere during 1997-2009, were he reflects on the trial, fatherhood etc.

Yes, I own it and yes I LOVE it. As you can probably see, my username is the title of one of the pieces from that book. Moonwalk was a little bit of a snooze for me (Sorry Michael!!) because a lot of what was written wasn't really anything new to me and it only covers Michael's life up until that point. I dragged my feet reading it the first time. He wrote his autobiography too early, he should have updated it years later.
Anyway, DTD is a great book. It definitely comes directly from MJ as opposed to being semi-ghostwritten like Moonwalk was. Michael's poetry and little essays are hidden gems that deserve more recognition. They show how deeply pensive and self-aware he was. You really get an understanding of the way he viewed the world.

Bought it soon after it was released but like most MJ releases at that time, I was unaware of it until I saw it looking at me from a display shelf in a shop. The pre Internet days and my age made for an in-the-moment spontaneous excitment that I don't feel anymore. I miss those days.
I loved this book. The first thing was to look through the book from beginning to end and marvel at the art and the amazing pictures of MJ. I would stare at those pictures for hours and constantly pic up this book and randomly flick through it. The poems and reflections are beautiful in it and this entire book is great piece of art. This is essential in my opinion.
I was disappointed in Moonwalk when it came out, but a friend bought the new addition after MJ's passing with the Berry Gordy foreword and re-reading it a few decades later with a completey different prospective, after all the media scandal and nonsense, I found it a really charming book to read.
I highly recommend Dancing The Dream and also the updated version of Moonwalk.
