Finished reading The Inner Life of Trees. Pretty good if you are into nature and shit. Is it a mindfulness book, or actually about what goes on inside of a tree during it's lifetime?

Now reading Octavia E. Butler: Parable of the Sower It was a good book, but I felt the ending was a bit abrupt. But then I saw it has a sequel, Parable of the Talents, so I guess I will have to read that too to find out how the story goes on. LOL. Now reading The Pendragon Legend by Antal Szerb which is a light hearted, humorous ghosts/crime/mystery story from the 1930s, just perfect for the Halloween period.

Captivity by György Spiro
It's a novel that takes place in ancient Rome in the first century. The protagonist is a young Jewish man who was born in Rome. So far I like it. I love ancient Rome stories.

Captivity by György Spiro It's a novel that takes place in ancient Rome in the first century. The protagonist is a young Jewish man who was born in Rome. So far I like it. I love ancient Rome stories. I finished it. It was an amazing book, one of my favorites now. I read it in original but I heard the English translation of it is not too great, but I think in original it's a masterpiece. I would say it's basically about the start of Christianity without it hardly talking about Christianity. How come? Because it's basically about painting a huge, historically accurate portray of the Roman empire at the time, of all the circumstances that made the perfect storm then for the rise of Christianity (the conflicts and clashes between Jews and Greeks in Alexandria and elsewhere, the pogrom against Jews in Alexandria, the Jewish war in Judea etc). It's such a well researched book too, historically. A joy to read for anyone who like that era of the Roman empire. Now I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

Currently reading Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs, have been for just over a week. Coincidentally, he passed away ten years ago today. Time sure does fly. He never ended up reading it, with it only coming out about 3 weeks after he passed. Finished this book recently and I very thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend the book, it gives a great balanced portrayal of the man and features accounts from essentially anyone and everyone who played a critical role in his life - both good and bad. The author also had plentiful of conversations with Jobs himself too, who chose to have no say in the book content and to which I am glad. It doesn’t shy away from the negative sides of his personality and behaviour (oh could he be an asshole), but you also come to see the impact he had. It’s frankly amazing to see the work he did to transform Apple from near-bankrupt shell it was in 1997 to the Goliath it was when he passed some 14 years later. His influence is going to felt for a long time. Next up, I’m finishing Elton John’s ‘Me’, which I started reading but never finished so I figured I should finish this before I dive into anything else. It’s a very casual, but honest read. John doesn’t shy away from how he would become utterly consumed by his extraordinarily heavy use of harder drugs, but he also opens up to many fascinating stories from his long career - a good few of which feature other famous musicians. I’m up to the part where he’s in rehab and having to learn to do many things for himself. He touches upon the isolation of celebrity. Not just being famous that you struggle to go out for a walk without being disturbed, but that you also become disconnected from real life. You have other people do everything for you that you inevitably don’t know how to do much on your own, nor do you have any concept of what normal day-to-day things cost. Of course John wrote it with the help of a writer but it’s still a very candid writing style. It feels like he is just having a frank conversation with you, which I’m liking. I’ve got back into reading books recently and I’m glad. I’m not a fast reader, or heavy by any means, but I’m keen to get back into it a bit more. Good break from the screen

So I'm reading the book Lost Scriptures by Bart D. Ehrman. It's a collection of early Christian books that didn't make it to the New Testament (Apocrypha). Yesterday I read, among others The Infancy Gospel of Thomas which deals with Jesus's childhood (fitting for Christmas). Now, the purpose of the ancient author was definitely to portray Jesus as so divine and mighty that he could already perform miracles as a child. But in the process he managed to portray Jesus as a completely insufferable little brat. Damien in the movie Omen has nothing on little Jesus! LOL. When he's accidentally pushed by another child while playing he just makes the other child drop dead. He drives his teachers to the verge of a nervous breakdown by being an arrogant smartass. People are actually scared of him because he has anger issues and he will just make people drop dead if they do or say something he doesn't like. He's completely out of control. I can't see the difference between him and an Antichrist child like Damien in Omen. LMAO.
I searched for comments on this on Twitter and I found others had the same impression. LOL.
