Initially and for many, many years I didn't like the leotard but eventually, I made my peace with it. I still don't like the look when worn underneath an opened jacket (Smooth Criminal, Jackson 5 Medley, and Thriller). I was also never too fond of the red-ish jumspsuit on Victory tour and the blue pants on the Dangerous tour for Workin' Day And Night. Same. Trying to explain it to my school friends was interesting to say the least. I have definitely grown to appreciate it in recent years though. He was a complete one off and it would have been utterly disappointing -not to mention disgusting- if he walked on stage in a pair of jeans and a shirt. 😂👍🏼

Although a one off laid back show would've been nice. Reminds me of the Motown 25 rehearsals and I think he rocked that look IMO. As for the leotard, it did look clumpsy and not quite flattering in 1996 (Brunei show). He had a slightly different physique and it didn't help that his shirt rolled up underneath lol.

I’m not being entirely serious when I say -it would be disgusting- if he wore jeans and a shirt, just exaggerating the point that it would be disappointing. For a one-off performance sure it would be awesome, just that when he went out on tour he understood that he needed to look unique and separate from everyone else. He needed to be the focal point. Yes, I agree about the leotard and that’s why I feel he should have retired it at the end of the European tour after the Bucharest show. His physique was perfect for it in 92. He should have done something different for the Japan shows to give them a one-off appeal and then do something slightly different again in 93 maybe something like the Super Bowl look, but 93 is another story anyway I guess. Yeah I agree also about wearing the leotard in 96. It was very dated by then and it didn’t look quite right. I suppose the fact it was a one off concert and he didn’t want to give away his HIStory tour makes it sort of understandable.

Yeah, I was aware you weren't too serious about it but failed to make you aware I was aware. Yes, that'd be the best compromise. 1992 the outwards worn leotard and for the 1993 leg the Super Bowl version! And then we'd come full circle to the Bad tour outfit as it would need a hidden attached strap between the legs to keep it in place.

Thanks lmao. 😂 Imagine if he’d worn the Bad Tour 88 costume for the Brunei 96 show?! Or the Bad Tour 87 costume? 😂🤣😆
