Four nominations are for technical achievements and the fifth for best documentary. Not surprised the mainstream media and corporates push LN Emmy nominations but it's truly an insult to film making as a whole.

Isn't it awkward how now we are having film critics decide about how great a documentary about a criminal case is, when most probably none of those film critics read one page of court document in this case? It's kind of a joke.

With HBO sponsoring the entire thing it's really not surprising.

This is a bit sickening. Especially when you think they'll be showing clips etc.
It brings it back into people's consciousness again and validates it.

Seems like a last-ditch, desperate attempt to legitimize a programme that proved to be all hype and no substance. Whilst it's frustrating and morally repungnant that the media continue to pretend that there are not huge gaping holes in Wade and James's stories, it doesn't really matter too much as the mainstream media no longer control the narrative the way they used to.
Anyone who was remotely interested in LN would've discussed it on social media or other online platforms and would've been exposed to the other side of the story. Folks know that there's another side to the story, but the media are stuck in 2005, thinking they have this omnipresent power to control and influence people en masse. It's almost quite amusing that they think that by merely refusing to acknowledge something, they can make it go away. In reality, their influence on the masses isn't a patch on what it once was and they're in denial.
Leaving Neverland hasn't changed the minds of Michael Jackson fans one iota. And many casual fans/non-fans were left unconvinced/sceptical. Considering the depths of depravity they stooped to in LN and considering the fact that they truly believed it would mark the final death knell to MJ's career, it's got to be a massive egg in the face to all involved that the impact was virtually non-existent. It's cute that they think any award is going to change that.

Yeah this is really desperate. They know that people have already moved on and this is probably a way to get people thinking about it again, and in some ways give it credence in the public eye.

The documentary awards are given in a separate ceremony and they are only broadcast on some small cable channel and not live.

It's cute that they think any award is going to change that. I think HBO and Oprah badly needs this validation. I don't say I'd not like it rather not win anything but knowing how awards and the media work these days and observing the artificial hype created around it and how they don't even care about the truth, it was really to be expected, so I'm kind of cynical about it and think that fans overreact it (doom and gloom on Twitter). Just think of if you know what film won best doc last year. I don't. Most people don't care about the Emmys and when they do it's fans of certain TV shows (Game of Thrones etc) caring about how their faves are doing in the main categories and that's it. Sure, bragging rights for Reed will be annoying but awards won't make it any more true. How can film critics validate something they themselves have no clue about? Because I doubt any of them read one piece of court document. The media today is one big circle jerk. Hell, HBO even sponsors the Emmys. It's all politics.
