If this was today, he could simply file a lawsuit and do a media tour. Any mistakes he might have made would be excused a la the train station debacle.

FIVE. NOMINATIONS. My God... if it wins I may kill myself. God this makes my whole day even worse, and it was already a bad one to begin with.

HBO is a big sponsor for the Emmys and it's ahead of the nominations, so it doesn't surprise me. It pissed me off as well but says where Hollywood priorities and ethics stand since the doc about Weinstein, Untouchable didn't get any nominations.

I actually find it quite laughable that HBO sponsors the Emmy's while HBO have their own documentary in the running.
"And I award this shiny trophy to... dum dum dum... OURSELVES - aren't we the best?!"
Smh.

"Non-fiction" lol
Being on HBO gave it credibility. I really hope the estate win their lawsuit.

We all know they were brought so don’t worry too much. I see it as an attempt to do damage control and legitimise the documentary

Joe Schmoe public doesn't really think or care about the details and power plays involved with awards. They see the name "Emmy" or "Oscar" and automatically associate it with prestige because they have been trained to do so. If this wins anything, it could very well affect Michael's legacy even more in the years to come, and no amount of protesting about it will fix anything. Maybe in time more people will wake up, but it feels so hopeless right now.

Its hardly hopeless after the turning of the tide the last few months. The people matter, not the press.

Whole sorry situation reminds me of one of my favourite Morrissey lyrics:
"Teach your kids to recognize and despise all the propaganda Filtered down by the dead echelons mainstream media" - My Love I'd Do Anything For You

If you looked at what was being said about Emmys yesterday after the noms, only MJ fans and Reed/LN pushers were talking of LN. If you look at Twitter this morning, its MJ fans that are keeping the tag going. It was always gonna get nominations. Im convinced Reed will get a BAFTA. Im over it, this is nothing we can help. The people matter, not Hollywood clowns.

Reed also got a best director nom, fwiw It's such bullshit. Purely judging it as a film, there's no way he deserves a nomination. The film is way too long - the second half in particular just drags and drags. The dull interview angles and endless drone shots make for very boring visuals. And as a documentary film maker, he failed epically by presenting a completely one-sided story which he refused to fact-check, and blatantly and maliciously misrepresenting things (e.g. MJs audio message on the airplane, the Geragos press conference). The only reason he gets this nomination is because it's a film about Michael Jackson, and because of the media push behind it.

This is another excellent article about the unreliability of memory: www.knowablemagazine.org/article/society/2017/making-case-against-memories-evidenceThis has clear implications for just about every single major event of the 20th century to now. This includes things like the Saville Inquiry into Bloody Sunday 1972,various cases which resulted in convictions based on witness testimony only as well as any number of child sexual abuse allegation, including all those levelled against Michael Jackson and other individuals. It's astounding how many people ae prepared to accept a dilution of the presumption of Innocence amongst other things. Where there's an agenda, there's ample reason to lie, twist and distort.
