Fans who dont think this is going to have a catastrophic impact on MJs legacy are either in denial or high. No more MJ on the radios/TV, campaigns to boycott MJ estate shows, no more airings of TII, Moonwalker, OTW 30, Bad 25 documentaries. This will spell the end of the general publics relationship with MJ. All he will have left is the hardcore fans, who aren't going anywhere. But Joe Public will be done with him after this. Pretending like its no big deal won't change the fact that this is going to be devastating for MJs legacy. Well I'm not high as I don't inhale. But we'll just have to wait & see what HIStory brings. I know we have the internet now but if a fucking court case that was reconstructed nightly and front page news daily for two weeks didn't finish him off then a widely debunked 'documentary' sure as hell won't. I sure hope people aren't somehow willing the worst just to prove themselves right. Again, i really, really hope you're right and this all blows over. Nothing was worse than the daily front page headlines of 2003-2005, MJ pictured in handcuffs being arrested, mugshot in ever paper, 6 month trial etc. However, at the end of all of that nightmare Mike was acquitted by a jury. His detractors largely had to shut up, eat some humble pie and crawl back into their holes. Some didn't and continued to attack MJ, but ultimately a jury disagreed with them and MJ walked away a free man. Yes, this is just a documentary, but it is going to be shown in prime time, world wide. Graphic, disgusting allegations are going to be aired by two people directly to camera. There is no acquittal here or vindication of a not guilty verdict. The Bashir doc caused a huge outcry back in 2003, and there weren't any actual allegations at that time. Anyway, I wish we could all just fast forward to after this doc airs and assess the damage, or lack of any. As I've said it all depends on how aggressively the Estate and MJ's family come out and attack this. I would love nothing more than to be sitting here in a year's time with this all blown over, Wade/James's credibility shot to pieces, their appeals dismissed, MJ's music still being played in public etc etc. I really hope that's how it all pans out.

I sure hope people aren't somehow willing the worst just to prove themselves right. You really think any fan would be willing these things to happen? This is a living nightmare for anybody who has cared about MJ over the years. It's even driven the moderator of this forum into hiding! I would love for this documentary to come and go and then things carry on as normal, but the media are like a dog with a bone when it comes to MJ, and make no mistake, they will be paying money for stories, victim fishing and doing everything in their power to make as big a splash about this as possible. And that's not even taking into consideration the SJW's on Twitter, who I'm sure will have a field day.

Like I say, only HIStory will show what the outcome is. And even then, there's short term history & the long haul.
Even if in the week(s) after the airing it gets front page and Twitter goes into meltdown, it'll calm & return to normal.
The good thing about Twitter is there's always another Brexit/Liam Neeson/Will Smith's genie round the corner for people to get upset about.

We all know the immediate response is going to be largely negative and there's going to be a lot of fuss, drama and outrage on social media and the mainstream media. But like you say, it's the long term implications that are still unknown at this stage. It's been a few months since the Lifetime docu-series on R Kelly and it feels like his career is all but over now. I can't imagine radios wanting to play I Believe I Can Fly or Ignition in a years time.

Unfortunately, we need to acknowledge that it will always be there. MJ's name will always evoke the following reactions: 1. The greatest ever & a musical genius 2. Weirdness 3. Abuse allegations It's horrible but that's what it is. Unless one day as we all hope Arvizo/Chandler admit the truth then it's always gonna be there. And even if they did, it doesn't take away the fact that these are part of his story. Even MJ knew this hence making his HIStory album all about this chapter (what a guy). It's horrible, but it's true. But his legacy is so, so strong (Unbreakable) it would take a Culkin or something to finish it. Obviously just my opinion, but we need to keep the faith (whist dusting off our butts and getting our self-respect back obviously).

Is radios playing him or not playing him still important these days, though? It's all about streaming now. And hopefully there will always be enough people to stream his music.
Maybe it's just me trying to be optimistic.
Last week MJ albums went up some places on Billboard...

MITM and Thriller both on the radio here at work today. Actually I heard Smooth Criminal and Bad on radio about a week ago and I don't even listen to radio. Lol. Just I was driven somewhere by co-workers and the radio was on in the car. One day it was Smooth Criminal, the other day it was Bad. Lol.

I agree with tony for the most part.but We are in uncharted territory as others said. Two people on camera crying child rape and all sorts. In one sense them on camera could go like arvizo. Ie he was a terrible liar and the jury saw straight through the tape. Same as when robson went on the t.v shows even the hater presenters were like 😅 but for others it can be powerful especially when theres no one to question it. No defence team to pull him to shreads no mj.it is incredibly dangerous.one big concern is the whole me too B.S.this has changed things alot.theres a lynch mob mentality out there now where no "victim" should ever be questioned or doubted. And many may believe it because they think no one would make such terrible allegations if they werent true. Of course we have seen it all when it comes to mj from the ridiclous to this.
But then you have it been four hours!!! Im baffled to how you could even fill it out to that. No one except prob paedos themselves are gonna sit through that.thats a bonus but then again 99% of the public will get their news in sound bites anyway. i guess alot depends on whats happening at the world at the time and will most of the media see it as old news as they have already reported on it after sundance already. Time will tell.

Ive yet to meet anyone who cares. The twitterverse has lost its credibility the past year. Itll be grand. We will always have to endure

I also agree that most people dont give a s#$/ the internet can be great but it can also make you think things are 100% times bigger than they are. ppl made up their minds years ago or dont care one way or the other. Old news. I think for me its how personally we take this as fans. Its fecking painful as its just added as another accuser regardless of how much B.S it is. Those names written down in history so to speak

As much of an idiot Quincy has been, him announcing a show to perform OTW Thriller and Bad is the kind of shit we need right now.

Guys, I would love nothing more than for this to all blow over with no lasting impact. I’m hoping beyond hope that that is what happens and in a few months time we don’t even have to post in this f’ing thread anymore.
Like elusive said above, my fear stems from the age we live in and how there’s a lynch mob out there who demand all alleged victims must be believed.
My concern is about the long term impact and whether people will want to boycott his music or not be associated with it - eg Cirque coming under pressure to pull MJ ONE, Broadway show later this year being under pressure to be cancelled, Quincy’s latest show in London later this year that’s just been announced etc.
It’s just a fear (maybe an irrational one), but fingers crossed none of that will happen.
