I can't stand Bieber, but Twitter allegations? Really? Is this what we've been reduced to?

Damn. I read this last night and was curious to how Bieber would respond... but I did not expect the avalanche of receipts that he posted to Twitter. It's just post after post after post.

It looks like it was a poorly thought out attack on him.

My initial response was sceptical, but I do think he went a bit overboard on Twitter, to the point where it looks a bit "doth I protest too much." I mean, considering it's just some random anonymous person on social media making these claims, a simple statement denying it and threatening legal action would've sufficed.
From what I gathered, he hasn't even successfully proven he wasn't there, and there are hundreds of people saying they saw him at that hotel on that date and have pictures to prove it.
I'm not saying I think he did it, just that it doesn't look good to go so overboard in your own defense to an allegation that only exists on social media so far. His Twitter reply seems to imply that Bieber is taking this far more seriously than the public were, which doesn't look good on him.

If I was accused of rape, I'd like to think I was taking it more seriously than my twitter followers would, somehow.

If I was accused of rape, I'd like to think I was taking it more seriously than my twitter followers would, somehow. It's a fine line though. MJ didn't respond to many allegations and lurid stories in his lifetime because he didn't feel the need to dignify some of that shit with a response. I understand why Bieber wanted to defend himself (who wouldn't?), but he does seem a little desperate to convince people it didn't happen, which actually has the reverse effect on what he's set out to do. I'm not criticising Justin, but his handlers/lawyers/team should be concerned about good optics and how much of a response was required, when most people were already calling BS on these allegations to begin with.

You don't have to be contrary to absolutely everything Russ, just saying.
I'm not surprised by this at all. Social media is a cesspit of attention seekers and a haven for wannabe professional victims. We can thank #MeToo and BelieveAllVictims for that. Soon there will be no male singers/actors/celebs left who haven't had some kind of sex abuse scandal levelled against them. This is what happens when you create a safe space for opportunists who face no consequences for their lies and all the while they continue pushing the myth that false sexual assault and rape allegations are extremely rare. The end result will be that the public become jaded and cynical about every accuser and a crime that is already notoriously hard to prove will become even more daunting.
