He should've won more than one Oscar, at least for any of the Westerns he scored, The Mission or Cinema Paradisso. The Hateful 8 one was a pitty Oscar, IMO but I cried anyway when he went on stage to get his Oscar and got a standing ovation.
Rest in peace, Grande Maestro Morricone! Another legend gone!

I can't believe Mr. Morricone wasn't even nominated for any of The Dollars Trilogy movies, his first Oscar nomination was until 1979 for Days in Heaven. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen those Sergio Leone movies, if you think of iconic movie scores, The Dollars Trilogy soundtracks come too mind. I still think Maestro Morricone should have won for The Mission.

The score for Once Upon A Time In America is the one I think he should have won for. Matches the film perfectly. Gorgeous music.
I'll always remember him aswell for being the intro to nearly every Metallica show since 83 with The Ecstacy of Gold

Lest we forget, MJ sampled the man himself with The Good the Bad and the Ugly in Dangerous live performances and Xscape. Always preferred the sample to the accordion that was added on the edited version.

The Mission's score was a heavy contender and knowing it lost to this which sounds like a high school jazz band is quite appalling and a robbery even if The Oscars are known for giving the statues as a popularity contest rather than a rightful winner for its own merits.
