I think there is this notion that music really went downhill from 2000 on. But actually there were quite a lot of songs which have been great hits and stood out from the usual mainstream music (not talking about Gagnam style and other crap)Β So maybe we can collect some great songs:Β

^ I've enjoyed all of Morrisey's releases in recent years. I think he's as strong as ever. I actually prefer his later stuff to his earlier releases with The Smiths. I particularly loved World Peace is None of Your Business.
In general? Loved releases from Regina Spektor (amazing and very underrated!), Lady Gaga, Madonna etc.

I just found 1 today - Redbone by Childish Gambino, I mean wow, that is so nu level soul and listen to some more of his jams, I can see the guy has a real Prince and Funkadelic feel in his music.

I really enjoyed Coldplay's singles, like Yellow, the scientist, fix you, viva la vida... I really liked some of Shakira's songs as well, like Africa, Hips don't lie.. oh and Hedley older songs like Kiss you inside out. Loved it!
