I just finished it and I liked it. I hear it's a prequel to the 1975 movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I never saw it but I'm going to watch it now.
The reviews I saw for the Netflix series were mixed, but I quite enjoyed this show. Good acting, nice cinematography. Around part 2-3 I started to worry it's going to turn into a gore fest, but thankfully it didn't, although it does have some scenes that are not for the faint hearted. I recommend it to people who like crime thrillers. Sometimes it gave me Silence of the Lamb vibes. Not the tone of the movie, but more the characters.

That's interesting. Thanks.
Cuckoo's Nest is a classic. The book is even better. Think the nurse who played Rached in the film won an Oscar and deservedly so.

I was going to start watching this tonight but time got away from me. It looks good. Plus I really like the lead actress woman, she's done some great roles in American Horror Story. She's an insufferable extreme left nutjob in her politics, but a very talented actress. Am I still allowed to use the word "actress"?
Also a big fan of both Cuckoo's Nest film and book.

My wife was obsessed with American Horror Story which looked great from bits Iโve seen. Sheโs been watching this the past few nights and Iโm half watching it. Itโs weird but good.

I wanted to watch Ratchet but I was turn off by the fact it's not an origin story as it seemed. I read and heard as well Sarah Paulson's Ratchet has little to do with One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest' Mildred Ratchet, other criticisms received were the forced inclusion of a lesbian relationship and how style (looking the trailers the art direction, wardrobe, photography and colors they used are stunning) predominates over substance.
So, I'm torn between watching and not watching to avoid disappointment.

Sarah Paulson. I saw her in the People vs. OJ Simpson mini series as the lead prosecutor. She was good there too.

Yeah, I never saw One Flew (I'm planning to watch it now), so maybe that allowed me to enjoy it independent of everything else and how it relates to the original story. The lesbian romance didn't bother me, but again, I don't know how it relates to the original story and whether it's a change compared to that.

I just watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and I actually prefer the series which is probably a blasphemy because the original movie is considered a classic. LOL. But I can see how those who are fans of the movie wouldn't like the series because they are completely different kind of movies. I don't think it's even the same genre. The only connection is the character Mildred Ratched of whom we don't know much in One Flew, so they are giving a background story to her in Ratched.

If the series was called American Horror Story: Ratched or Psychiatric Hospital, no one would have batted an eye Ryan Murphy created an alternative version of the Big Nurse, Sarah Paulson's version is more in sync with the AHS universe than the original source material.
Now I need to read the book to know how faithful the movie adaptation was to the original source but as far as I'm aware of, the core principles of the Mildred Ratched character were respected.

Finished it. Loved it.
Really pleased they made her more than the one dimensional terrible monster.
Supporting cast was fantastic. Especially Sharon Stone, Amanda Plummer and Sophie Okendo.

I started watching it, but then when every other character turned out to be a bean-flicking todger dodger, I switched off. Ew.
