There is a big push from the UK government to encourage those out of work in the arts to retrain in new jobs. This advert is a disgrace: What people don’t realise is, when you train for any other job like in government you might have been working towards it for 5 or 10 years since uni. As a dancer you train your whole life from the age of 2-4 years old and make so many sacrifices. All of my theatre buddies are up in arms about the governments latest advice to retrain.

I guess it's about supply and demand. At these times, there simple isn't the demand for many of the people in the arts to continue to be paid for the work they do. Hopefully it's a temporary situation and those working in theatres and live entertainment will be able to go back to normal sooner rather than later. But at the present moment, there just isn't the work for them due to Covid.
The government advice to retrain is very dismissive though. I guess they are just preparing people in the arts for the harsh reality of being out of work for the forseeable future.

But how they have delivered that message to the country has been disgraceful and so disrespectful to the whole arts community. And that advert is just a stab in the back for them.

Yes, it's very poorly thought-out advice and it shows a lack of value to an industry which enriches all our lives and pretty much makes life worth living for many of us. You don't dedicate your life to something only to retrain in something else because of something which is hopefully just a temporary problem. There's always jobs to fall back on in hard times that don't require training. Ask any actor, most of them will have done more retail and bar work than paid acting gigs!

It is bad but not surprising coming from this government. I'm not really surprised as it's every week at this point.

It was actually from a campaign 2 years ago trying to get people recruited into cyber security. It's nothing to do with arts suffering under Covid. Just been badly timed & brought up again.
No fan of the Government but this has been taken out of context, nevertheless they have taken it down now.

There's no such thing aimed squarely at those in the arts and Sunak was talking about all job sectors. A member of the BBC anti-disinformation team has pointed this out. www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-54505841Indeed, we can see from the FullFact transcript that Sunak was talking about people from all walks of life and various job sectors. The interviewer kept trying to single out the arts. fullfact.org/economy/rishi-sunak-arts-opportunities/£1.5 billion has gone to the arts as well.
