For me it's this: Closely followed by Bad the same year.

The first album I ever chose (parents bought, but it was my choice) was Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden
I had tons of cassettes and LPs as a kid but they were all bought with allowance or my parents bought them.
I started making my own money with odd jobs around the neighborhood at 11. By 12 I saved enough money to buy my first CD player and 3 CDs with it.
The 3 CDs were LL Cool J - Bigger And Deffer, Heart - Bad Animals and Whitesnake - Whitesnake

For me it's this: Closely followed by Bad the same year. Think that will have been in my first few ones also. 1987? My first ones were Eurythmics Be Yourself Tonight & Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms. Still love the Eurythmics one (hate Dire Straits!). Think Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet was soon after. They were all on cassette. Bad was the first CD we bought as a family. I distinctly remember us buying it & getting quite excited about the Bonus Track!!

And it was all downhill from there? Talk about peaking early.

Not including children's groups... Either Elephunk by The Black Eyed Peas or Green Day's American Idiot.
I got them around the same time so don't remember exactly. I enjoyed Elephunk for it's singles especially (Let's Get Retarded, Hey Mama, Shut Up and Where Is The Love?) but didn't play too much of the rest of the album so can't really comment on that. Whereas American Idiot, honestly I'd say it's a classic through and through. Definitely one of those albums where I enjoy every song.

Not including children's groups... Thought you said it wasn't including childrens groups? Sorry, insufferable music snob I am.

With my own young adult makin' monies? HIStory album and all singles. Of course already had all J5, Jacksons & prior solo MJ albums naturally but damn if it didn't feel good to buy those singles and album myself independently!

I’m not entirely sure. I was gifted all the MJ albums growing up. The first MJ album I bought myself was HIStory on double cassette.
