One of the greatest families in R&B music history. Unfortunately, their demons got the best of them and has been a constant setback on their road to recovery.
TV One's Unsung episodes on Debarge and Switch only covered a small portion of what the siblings went through. I hope they find peace one day

I hardly know anything about them (you have to forgive me, I grew up with 50 cent and Britney LOL).
Any recommendations?
And what exactly happened to them? I recall an interview with James DeBarge, he told a story of how he wanted to commit suicide and that MJ saved him...

These 2 tv specials are about them www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWV1Qx5yXBwwww.youtube.com/watch?v=_rngqqFNZcYBobby was incredibly talented and one of the best vocalists (his falsetto was stunning) but the abuse he suffered from his father as well as struggling with his bisexuality led to decades long drug addiction. here's some songs that I really like SWITCH I Wanna Be With You There’ll Never Be I Wanna Be Closer You’re The One For Me I Call Your Name (when I was a kid in the 90s and 00s, I wondered if it was The Jacksons lol) Love Over and Over Again You and I (this song is about LaToya. Notice Bobby mention “Night Time Lover”) This Is My Dream DEBARGE What’s Your Name Queen of My Heart I’ll Never Fall In Love Again I Like It All This Love Stay With Me Time Will Reveal Love Me In A Special Way

About James' marriage to Janet....
The Debarge siblings were pretty close to The Jacksons. Mark Debarge is on Youtube talking about how when Switch got really popular and on Motown, Jermaine would have Bobby and Tommy at Encino and Michael and the others would sit and listen to Bobby play the piano. Michael became friends with Bobby and would ask him questions about life and they all got the sense he was asking because he had to grow up so fast and was trying to find out about regular life because fame was all he knew. He speaks kindly about Michael.

Jermaine Jackson brought Both Switch and Debarge to Motown.
matter of fact Jermaine Jackson was a ghost musician and member of Switch and he would cut One man band performances with just him and Bobby.
El Debarge solo career songs to check out are "Someone"
the classic remake "tonight my love"
His classic cover of Marvin Gaye's "After the dance"
where you are
who's johnny
one of the funkiest cuts he did was "you were it well"
FYI on El Debarge's 2010 "another chance" He did a duet with 50 cent LOL
El Debarge has done duets with Patti Austin, DJ Quik,Heavy D,Kool Moe Dee,
he is featured on Black Me United,"U Will Know"
El and His brother Chico had a smoking Neo Soul cut called "Iggin Me" check that joint out as El Debarge is playing organ on that cut.
Switch had some tight R&B cuts and Bobby debarge was the truth
