Christ Rebbie looks well, doesn't she? Absolutely. Gobsmacked.Β There's a lot to be said about being able to avoid fame.

Finally seen this.
Very good. Lots of coverage for Mike which I thought she may shy away from (as in, she's spent half her life trying not to be over shadowed so was pleasantly surprised in that respect).
But by God, Joe's done well out of it. It was sort of balanced but she obviously thinks his behaviour was worth it in the end.
I wonder if she'd have thought that if she was on the back end of his switch.
Also, surprised they pretty much glossed over every album from Velvet Rope. Which whilst I agree the quality and performance of those albums was low I'd have thought they'd have got more attention in this.
A bit like seeing the usual MJ programs and they don't talk about anything after Bad.
But, yeah, thought she looked and sounded really well.
By the way, mid 90's Janet was just perfect.

I thought it was decent, but could have been better. The performance footage they used of her didn't show her at her best. They didn't show much from her music videos, where she really shines. They didn't showcase many of her hits. Basically, I don't think they did a good job of showing why she got so big in the first place. The private footage was pretty cool to see. That Rene dude was an interesting piece of work.

The first 5 albums were revolutionary to me but something about that album was extra special. I guess I just loved that super introspective part of it, she talked about aloud of subjects that were taboo at that time.

I only watched around 20 minutes so far but Janet and Randy are basically acting and it's hard enough to get past.

I'm pretty late to the party but I just watched the documentary and it's..... Not great.
Now, for the new kids who don't know anything about her, it'll prove pretty informative but there was really nothing new in it for fans and some of the GP. The doc was also pretty hard to get through because it was 4 hours of Janet subtly blaming everyone but herself for things that happened to her. I mean, God forbid that I take away from the woman's struggles (everyone has them) but it started getting a bit annoying.
I was also expecting her to talk about her art more instead of making it more about her family. No mention of her albums after Janet, nothing about her songwriting process, even the performances they showed weren't her best.
I love Janet but it's been 18 years and she knows good and well that the SB was not an accident. That shit was planned and executed accordingly and she let people blame Timberlake for it. I thought she was gonna tell the truth about it finally but I was wrong. And I'm surprised nobody's talking about Randy's story about Bowie offering drugs to kids.
Lastly, whilst I was glad and grateful for the Michael footage, it wasn't fair for Janet to put the bullying blame on Michael alone. All of her brothers teased her, not just him. Maybe his teasing hurt her the most but she knew his name would be the generate clicks so she put the blame on him. She also said that after Thriller, Michael started to distance himself but she forgot to mention that that was the period she started working on her own stuff with Jam and Lewis and was incredibly busy as well. Claiming that she wasn't allowed to see Michael during the video shoot for Scream also slightly annoyed me as there's BTS photos of them goofing off and first hand accounts of people who worked on the set (I wish I could link the thread,I found it on another music board I'm on) that in between takes, they were always playing and singing their childhood songs together.
All in all, with all she lied about in the doc, one can't help but wonder how honest she really was being in the film.
PS: 90s Janet is body goals. I felt bad hearing that she didn't feel that way about herself.
