So, it's available to hear online now: New single, Spent the Day in Bed by Morrissey.
I'm a HUGE Morrissey fan so was really excited about this. Really like the new track and the lyrics - as always from him - are just spot on.
It's made me excited for the album.
Here's the lyric video to the single.
Song includes the lyrics:
"I do recommend that you Stop watching the news! Because the news contrives to frighten you To make you feel small and alone To make you feel that your mind isn't your own
Life ends in death So, there's nothing wrong with Being good to yourself Be good to yourself for once
And no bus, no boss, no rain, no train No emasculation, no castration No highway, freeway, motorway No bus, no boss, no rain, no train..."

Really enjoy the new song. Makes me want to ring in sick from work, which I'm guessing is its intent. lol
Also really like the new album cover. You gotta love Mozza - he never changes.

I'm one of the few people who actually prefers Morrissey's solo work to his work in The Smiths. Albums like World Peace Is None Of Your Business and Ringleaders of The Tormentors are masterpieces imo.
Really like the sound of the new single and looking forward to hearing what else the album has to offer.
Here's the tracklist:
"My Love, I'd Do Anything for You" "I Wish You Lonely" "Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up on the Stage" "Home Is a Question Mark" "Spent the Day in Bed" "I Bury the Living" "In Your Lap" "The Girl from Tel-Aviv Who Wouldn't Kneel" "All the Young People Must Fall in Love" "When You Open Your Legs" "Who Will Protect Us from the Police?" "Israel"

I'm a massive fan, seen him live a few times, love most of his work. I actually think he is one of the greatest artist's left. Anyway, his new album was released recently and now I've had the chance to give it a few listens, I thought I'd give my first impressions on it. I think there are a couple of other fans on here?
LOVE IT! It's a strong album, very "themed." It highlights a lot of Morrissey's feelings and opinions on war and politics. There is definitely a strong vibe to the album, which is typical of Morrissey because his music (just like in his real-life interviews) are often full of his strong opinions, and on this album he certainly doesn't shy away from talking about the corrupt world of politics and the meaningless of war.
Having heard it a few times now, here are my top four favourites (because I can't be assed to write a word for word, song for song review lol):
- ISRAEL - Beautiful. Haunting. In fact, probably one of the best records Morrissey has written/released in recent years. It's up there with his best. An atmospheric piano ballad that just transforms you. It gave me goosebumps on the first listen and from then on, I knew it was special. If you only hear one song from that album, make it Israel. Gorgeous!
- I Bury the Living - one of the songs that focuses heavily on the victims of war. It's strong, it's emotive. Brilliant lyrics. It sticks with you once you've heard it, I had to play it twice on the first round of listens because it really captured something in me.
- The Girl from Tel-Aviv Who Wouldn't Kneel - Wow. This song totally transports you. It makes you feel like you are there, in a foreign country, lost in the culture of another time and place. It's really quite different for Morrissey. I thought I would hate it purely because I think the title is bloody annoying (lol) but in actual fact, it's up there amongst the best on the album.
- My Love, I'd Do Anything For You - A great choice for an album opener. Classic Morrissey. Weird opening sequence, punchy vocals, catchy. Love it.

Must be others here who appreciate his genius?! I do Liberian Girl. I haven't had the chance to listen to the new album yet, but it's definitely on my radar. Morrissey always delivers the goods.

I haven't really dived deep into his past work but I've been enjoying what I've been hearing from the new album. My dad is a big fan. He actually released a new video today.

Hmmm, honestly, it isn’t resonating with me like his albums usually do. It’s a bit like a collection of Mozza b-sides, infact, some of the songs actually remind of Swords, his b-side compilation.
There is some good stuff to be found, the songs I enjoy the most are I Bury The Dead, Home Is A Question Mark and Israel. But nothing on the album really moves me or gives me goosebumps, at least not to level of the best songs on World Peace Is None Of Your Business or Ringleaders of the Tornentors. Maybe it’ll grow on me with repeated listens, but right now, I’m a bit disappointed with it, which is gutting, as I have adored his last four albums.

As with all his albums, it’s grown on me quite considerably since my last thread.
It’s a funny record though... more than any of his other records, I couldn’t imagine anybody who wasn’t already a fan enjoying this album. It’s just so Morrissey and I know that sounds trite, but I can’t see this resonating beyond his already established audience. Not because of anything to do with the quality of the work, but just because stylistically and musically, it builds and almost strips back upon a lot of what he’s done previously, and I can’t see that translating well to someone who only really know Morrissey from his hits with The Smiths.

I love Everyday Is Like Sunday, that song is pop gold. Don't really know much of his later output, but you can't argue with The Smiths. One of the greatest bands of the 80s.
