I got to say Michael was/is one of the most misunderstood artist in history. BUT that's not to say others has been disrespect either.
i think what makes Michael story so, i can't think of a word right now.... is because how famous and still famous to this day.
he was a black child star who was very gifted and his whole childhood was taken away from him because of his abused father. not mention he was poor and all his family had to live in a house with two bedrooms.
Michael didn't stop his career. kept doing his career until he left this earth.
he was once of an lifetime person. you don't see many people like Michael even in today standards.

Janet story is pretty much like her bothers expect the reason her career was disrespect over the superbowl accident.
she now getting the respect she deserves same with Brittney.
like pg13 said you can pretty much blame the media for most of the stuff that happen to them.

Well Tony, I think you have to be honest with yourself as a Madonna fan, and admit that she really hasn't done herself any favours. You must have a short memory, because Madonna was WORSHIPPED by the music press for YEARS, around the time of ROL, Music etc she could do no wrong. Even AL was critically lauded at the time and the narrative only changed once the album underperformed. Confessions and Madame X also were met with universal praise by most music critics. But I saw her getting her ass out again on Instagram this morning, and she undermines herself constantly, in terms of being viewed as a serious artist. I know she's always got off on liking to shock people, or going against the grain of what society expects from a woman of a certain age. But the truth is, about 20 years ago she was probably the most celebrated and revered popstar on the planet, and she's kind of gone out of her way to piss all that down the drain. Oh yeah. I know she doesn't help herself. Everytime I see Kylie interviewed for example I think 'why can't Madonna come across like that?'. She's still got that horrible defensive wall that comes across. I know it stems from losing her Mother at an early age, from all the shit she's had to deal with and she never would have survived without being so strong and defensive but a lot of the time she doesn't always seem that likeable. Ray of Light aside, I'm sorry, but I rarely remember her, like MJ, being loved post her 80s and early 90s heyday. Erotica onwards, she's been constantly trashed. Occasionally there's been a glimpse of respect (RoL, Evita) but not much. Putting Madonna to one side, I'll never get why some artists are 'okay or cool to like but others have to be a so called Guilty Pleasure. Now, I'm older I'm happy to be quite honest and say I've got S Club 7, next to Marvin Gaye on a playlist and Billie Piper next to Suede. Having longevity really doesn't help an artist sometimes. Going back to Madonna (sorry, got a bee in my bonnet at the moment!), but even of you didn't like her latest works, she's totally avoided doing the usual legacy artist stuff of Great American Songbook/Vegas/Duets/covers etc.. etc I dunno Tony, I guess we must read very different stuff, cuz all I remember from 98 till around 08 was the music press fawning over Madonna. All her albums were getting rave reviews in that timeframe and I certainly don't think she was disrespected at all. These days, she leaves herself open to more criticism by posting pictures of her nipples on Instagram and other such antics which would be a bit cringe for someone half her age, but doing it at 63 is only ever going to invite a certain type of negative attention.

She was 35 at the time: Of course she's always been met with resistance from some, but the "what do you expect, its Madonna?" excuse is wearing thin at 63. The latest Insta photos might make a nice shop front in Amsterdam, but are utterly tragic for a legend of her calibre.

I'm saying no such thing, actually. Things aren't quite as clear cut as that given the media is dependent on the people. There is a symbiotic relationship between the media and general public. Both shape the other. Celebrities do certain things to get certain types of coverage. MJ wasn't any different there.

Madonna is certainly not above being slagged for her recent instagram posts to be fair. The absolute state of what she's posting.

I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms.
