It was nice and emotional to see all the live action Spidermans together, though I believe Tobey and Andrew didn't have much to do. I think Spiderman Into the Spider- Verse handled the incorporation of many characters from alternative universes better than the live action version.
The first half of the movie was slow and kind of boring but as soon as Dr. Octopus and The Green Goblin (especially The Goblin, Willem Dafoe killed it and overshadowed every one there) appeared, the film improved. I swear I didn't hate it and it entertained me but I was expecting much more deepness and darkness and what pissed me off is that the director didn't know how to film the 3 Spidermen in action when they were in the dark, when the 3 were swinging and flying, they looked blurry and I couldn't distinguish them.

I very, very thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fascinating seeing the impacts of Peter Parker being outed as Spider-Man and how that affected those around him, as well as seeing how they handled the villains returning. I'm really glad they didn't just have them go 'oh we're going to all team up to destroy the world", instead they all had their own motives - some just wanted to go back, some wanted power, some wanted to just fuck with Spidey, some wanted to do good. Andrew and Tobey's reveal was handled wonderfully and I still got swept up in the moment despite seeing leaked photos of them together on set months ago, so I knew they were coming back.
At first when Aunt May convinced Peter to try and do good, to save the villains I was like "wtf are you doing???!" but the film convinced me over the course that that was the right action to take. I loved the scene in Happy's apartment where Spidey's senses are just going WILD but he cannot pinpoint ANYTHING because he's quite literally in a room surrounded by villains (I thought it was because Jonah Jameson showed up - who I also LOVED how the film used him to rip on that fuckwit Joe Rogan).
I loved seeing the three Spidey's hanging out together and seeing them just interact with each other, comparing all their lil difference (the web shooting jokes 😂) but especially how they worked together to help each other. Be it them psyching up Andrew Garfield's Spidey who wasn't feel that great (it was quite meta), Tobey Macguire's Spidey stopping Tom Holland's from making the same mistake he did (he felt like the wise ol' Spidey), and also Zendaya's MJ allowing Andrew Garfield's Spidey to help redeem himself for failing to save Gwen Stacy all those years ago. Man I got teary eyed in that, and I haven't bloody seen TASM2 haha. Also how neither Tobey nor Andrew knew wtf the Avengers were and thought they were a band LOL. Really showed up how alone they felt.
But yeah I really, really enjoyed it and I think it ranks amongst my most favourite MCU films easily, though I'm an absolute sucker for Tom Holland's Spidey films. I know they're acting in this film, but also seeing Tom Holland and Zendaya playing the role of boyfriend/girlfriend and knowing they are now dating... just adds an extra layer to it yknow? Lol.
I think there was a lot of opportunity for this to go wrong or come off cheesy but IMO they executed it wonderfully

Honest to god, I really only expected 10 mins of Andrew and Tobey and for it to only be a gathering before the "final boss" fight so I was thrilled with how much proper screentime, dialogue and interaction they got with Tom. Regarding your second point, I think this is probably the deepest MCU movie for me now. Given everything Peter has come through since Civil War, he's basically constantly been fighting his battles with Stark Tech. He's now grown to have been able to make the decision that he will undoubtedly affect those around him by knowing he is Spider-Man, so the ending is probably the most meaningful ending out of all the films for me. Broke, poor lonely Peter - the best kind! I very, very thoroughly enjoyed it. I think there was a lot of opportunity for this to go wrong or come off cheesy but IMO they executed it wonderfully I though the EXACT same and my heart SANK as I thought "oh my god this is moronic" and then after a bit I was like "no, this is totally every Aunt May". Regarding your second point, it was amazing watching them interact, and at NO point did it seem like a cash in or pointless. It really brought forward how different all three Spider-Men are and completely validated them for their roles. I'm especially glad for Andrew because after watching TASM and TASM2 a few times lately, I actually do enjoy them and there are really good films in there somewhere, but not only that he was such a great Spider-Man, and NWH just let Andrew be the Spider-Man he should have been, and wanted to be. Andrew definitely made the movie for me, because even though it all went wrong for him NWH just gives so much to TASM series and makes them mean something. Him saving MJ is now my favourite MCU moment (sorry Cap...). What I especially love about NWH is that is has now fixed everything I didn't like about MCY Spidey - Tony Stark. After a rewatch of FFH (which I love) it really gets more and more like it's a mini Iron-Man 2 film, with all the tech and gadgets Peter has at his disposal, and with Fury and Maria etc. We now have a bare bones and lonely Peter Parker, with a home made (and absolutely amazing) costume, with a police radio. That's all we need! Basically, the MCU trilogy is now an Amazing Origins Of trilogy! It's really made the previous 2 even better. And the money its made during Covid! Mental! I think it's overtaken Endgame as my favourite MCU film. The highs were higher, and the lows lower (May's death).

Yet when he doesn’t, you can’t help but have an immense amount of respect for him. The amount of courage it would’ve taken for Peter to deliberately stand back from MJ and Ned’s lives - the only people he has left now after the loss of his parents, uncle, Tony and now Aunt May. It’s immeasurable. It’s the ultimate sacrifice he could’ve done for the people he loves really, and entirely at his expense. Like try to imagine you doing that yourself, it’s soul crushing. We are a social species after all. It does make for a fascinating restart though. I can’t wait for the next one.

Him saving MJ is now my favourite MCU moment (sorry Cap...) I haven’t seen TASM2 so can’t speak for that, but I didn’t care for TASM1. It felt entirely unnecessary since it was essentially retelling a story (for the most part) we got just 10 years prior. I’m SO glad we didn’t get another Uncle Ben story with Tom’s iteration. In saying that though, my complaints are with the story of TASM1. Not the acting. Like Tobey and Tom, I felt Andrew made for a great Spidey! I like to think NWH helped redeem him somewhat. Especially for Andrew Garfield as my understanding is he was quite heartbroken over how his Spidey was handled (or rather, mishandled).

I'm hoping the symbiote doesn't spell for an MCU venom straight away, but I'm also hoping it's done better than it was in Spider-Man 3. I also have to admit that I was quite happy for Hardy's Brock to be sucked back out of the MCU... Those films are not for me. I watched the 2 of them last week (hadn't seen Carnage) because I heard about the end credits scene in Carnage. For nothing! I also think Tobey and Andrew are a lesson to all actors with previous comic experience - staying in shape will keep doors open! Jesus, even Michael Keaton. He's so good and genuinely in shape looking that it has to be 100% the reason anyone considered approaching him to reprise the Batman role. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has it's work cut out for it...

Shit. Made a new thread cos you cant discuss much in a non spoiler thread. And yet you're still quoting me, thus forcing me to come back into the thread.

Man, I had a feeling that would happen.
I'm not quoting you Tony so you don't come back into the thread prematurely, but I knew the spoiler going in (leaked set photos + couple other things that turned out to be true) yet I still really enjoyed it. A great, enthusiastic audience reaction to them helped too.
