My biggest one is when they introduce too many characters all at once and expect you to remember who everyone is.
I started Susan Lewis's latest one "The Lost Hours" yesterday and by the time I reached Chapter Two, we'd already been introduced to 13 characters! Presumably, they're not all going to become main characters, but I have a feeling - as is normally the case with SL - they'll become secondary characters featured throughout.
I have to admit, I have to keep a list on hand of who's who, but it's unfortunate to have to keep referencing a list when a name crops up.
I don't mind quite a few introduced as a book goes on, but being introduced to so many pretty much from the off confuses me so much as i have to keep checking my list.
Anyone else have problems with this? Or is it just me and my awful memory?

One of my pet peeves...
I hate it when a story flips between different years. As soon as I read on the blurb that a story is going to flip between different eras, it's pretty much a red flag and I don't tend to go for those kind of books.
I also get put off by cliches on the blurb, such as "his past comes back to haunt him" etc.

I remember struggling a bit with To Kill A Mockingbird recently as the first few pages felt like it was barraging me with lots of names.
There were lots of characters in that book admittedly so I did get a bit muddy with some of the lesser ones. Still, didn't stop me from really loving that book.
