Blimey. It was going to be a memorable night for Will, but not for this reason. BBC News - Will Smith hits Chris Rock on Oscars stage www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-60897004Will Smith hit Chris Rock in the face on stage at the Oscars after the comic made a joke about the actor's wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Referring to Pinkett Smith's shaved hairdo, Rock said: "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2." Smith walked up on stage and appeared to strike Rock before returning to his seat and shouting: "Keep my wife's name out of your... mouth." Smith later apologised in a tearful best actor acceptance speech. "I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to my all my fellow nominees," Smith said after winning the first Oscar of his career for playing the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard.

I know, I know, physical violence is always wrong and all that, but I'm not gonna lie. There's something satisfactory in Chris Rock finally getting what he deserves.

I understand Will's anger, Jada has alopecia but he could've smacked Chris in private. If Chris Rock was aware of her condition, (which she talked about in public) it was insensitive of Rock. But then, many comedians strike me as opportunistic of tragedies and crimes.

I thought it was a poor show from Will Smith. I don't like Chris Rock, infact I don't know anybody that does, but I think Will's outburst made everyone around him feel really uncomfortable and that's not how grown men should behave in public.

"Will Smith defends his wife's honour after a mean joke by hitting Chris Rock. Meanwhile, his wife defends Will's honour by sleeping with other guys."
Some comment on YouTube lol

Think itbqas a slap rather than punch but if you look at Rock's face you can see some fresh prints.

Chris Rock also came out of it looking like the mature one for the way he handled it too. Will looked pretty bad AND he overshadowed his own first Oscar win. No-one is talking about his Oscar now. A comment I saw on YT: You just know Will wouldn't have done that if Chris happened to be the bigger guy of the two.

Will Smith getting an Oscar should be the controversy here.

Will Smith getting an Oscar should be the controversy here. Even if there were better nominees than Will, he was the favorite to win the Oscar. In fact, there weren't surprises for the most part of how the Oscar predictions were.

And on the verge of it even Judd Apatow is getting dragged. A beautiful day. LOL.

What I find interesting about this whole thing is that it really wasn't even that good of a joke anyway, making a random reference to some relatively obscure movie that came out 25 years ago? Like I consider myself fairly versed with movies and even I had to look that movie up. Never heard of it!
But because of his infamous Golden Globes hosting two years ago, this incident had me wondering how it would've gone down if Ricky Gervais was the one who said it. Man would probably have just doubled down π Could've easily come back with a joke about how his wife's name is in plenty of other men's mouths. But alas. It made me go watch his Golden Gloves introduction again and crack up lol.

Many people are just criticizing Will's behavior when both Will and Chris Rock were wrong, not just WS. Making jokes at the expense of people's medical conditions or appearance is not comedy, it is downright bullying.
