I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand I feel like people watch sports for escapism and it's one of the few things in this world that truly binds people of all beliefs together so it is perhaps not the right place to make a controversial political statement. I also don't quite see what the end goal is. Ending racism in America? Good luck with that. Then again, I can also understand why athletes would want to use the platform they are given to make their voices heard - nobody really cares what they have to say off the pitch or when their career is over. And it's not like the NFL isn't already political with its overt patriotism and glorification of the military. For me personally, the notion of singing the national anthem before every sports game, hand on heart, is a bit North Korea-ish. And it's fun to see all the free speech warriors on the right who passionately defend the right of neo-nazis and white supremacists to express themselves suddenly get upset when people they disagree with want to assert that same right. Apparently marching with swastikas and assault rifles is fine but "disrespecting the flag" is the ultimate offense
