I wonder if they’ll hold it back for Thriller50. I’m guessing there’ll be a Thriller50. That's possible yeah, would be totally lame, but yeah. Don't really know how many more Thriller celebrations we need at this point tbh. This one kinda seems like the ideal time to just do the stuff. I really hope they release that remastered Thriller film they did a good few years ago. Surely this Thriller40 campaign is the perfect moment. And yes, they really need to focus on something apart from Thriller at this point. It’s such a shame that Dangerous and HIStory have been ignored thus far. Surely within the next 10 years we’ll get something 90’s related.

Surely within the next 10 years we’ll get something 90’s related. They had their chance with Dangerous 25 and all we got was a t-shirt. HIStory 25 was apparently being planned but got cancelled. I would love those albums to get the same attention but seeing how they are associated with the time of the first allegations (Dangerous being the main album up to when those first happened, and HIStory being the first album after), I can see it being difficult to heavily promote special/anniversary editions of either without those being brought up and making things difficult.

Hmm, I’m not sure that the album’s themselves are associated with the allegations? There was a good two years of promotion and activity before the 93 allegations, but there’s nothing to stop the media from mentioning the allegations I guess. According to a list Respect posted recently, Dangerous is in the top 30 biggest selling albums. It sold somewhere in the region of 32 million if that’s accurate? The premier’s of the short films were big events. Black Or White was broadcast across 27 countries. I can’t see how such an album can be ignored. Same for HIStory. From Wikipedia; “Five hundred million viewers reportedly watched it (Black Or White) —the largest audience ever for a music video. The music video and its controversy boosted the sale of Dangerous, as did the broadcast of videos for "Remember the Time" and "In the Closet". Dangerous: The Short Films collection of music videos from Dangerous, with behind-the-scenes footage, was released in 1993. The Dangerous World Tour, which grossed $100 million (equivalent to $177 million in 2020) and drew nearly 4 million people across 72 concerts. All profits from the tour were donated to charities including Jackson's Heal the World Foundation. The Bucharest concert was filmed on October 1, 1992, for broadcast on HBO on October 10, 1992. Jackson sold the film rights for the concert for $20 million, then the highest amount for a concert performer to appear on television. The airing of the HBO concert special, Michael Jackson: Live in Bucharest, revived sales of the album. Jackson made personal appearances in early 1993, including the American Music Awards and Grammy Awards, when he accepted the Grammy Legend Award from his sister Janet. He also filmed a widely discussed interview with Oprah Winfrey and made a half-time performance at the Super Bowl XXVII, which started the NFL's trend of signing top acts to appear during the Super Bowl to attract more viewers and interest. The performance helped return Dangerous to the US album chart's top ten.”

I mainly included it because it was the "active" album when the crap with the Chandlers happened, and those allegations pretty much killed any and all remaining promotional stuff for it. Not a good way to end that album's run. =/

I don't think Dangerous is associated with the allegations. You don't have to mention the allegations in relation to Dangerous. With HIStory it's different because a large part of it was addressing the allegations from MJ's POV. You can't talk about HIStory without mentioning the allegations.

So I think the situation track wise is interesting. We have the following 5 of 10 tracks confirmed
Behind The Mask Got The Hots (previously ID'd by content ID on Youtube) The Toy What A Lovely Way To Go She's Trouble
Fans on Reddit have said that the following songs have been recognised by the YouTube track ID thing as being registered for Thriller 40
Carousel Cant Get Out Of The Rain Sunset Driver (some version)
This is where it gets interesting if the above is all accurate. I would have put my life on it that Nite Line, Hot Street and Starlight were absolute guarantees, but we are only left with 2 slots (if true).
I would also have thought that The Lady In My Life full version, TGIM demo (previously released even) and/or the Baby Be Mine demo be in contention.
Nite Line and Hot Street have 100% completed vocals and backing vocals so these could be held back for more shitty "reworkings" which we should probably expect, given that Loving You and DYKWYCA were kept for Xscape.
Next few weeks will be interesting but it's still baffling how MJs estate can look at releases like the 1999 and SOTT Super Deluxe Editions which are very much definitive with regards to available recordings etc. and think "not worth it".
As excited as I am for the release of this, it falls so so far below what it deserves yet STILL exceeded my expectations.

Tony hopes this is true. 10 unreleased tracks over 1000 outtakes any day of the week. Release Making Of Thrillwr again and I'm more than happy. Its already much better than the 2001 SE.

One of your posts last week has me listening to Sunset Driver a lot and it really is great. The very first "femme fatale" song? I've seen it written that an early version of BOTDF uses the first verse of Sunset Driver. That sounds like a marvelous blending of universes. Allegedly reworked in 1982. Re-releasing The Making of Thriller would do some image repair too, MJ is quite charming in it.

Isn't Sunset Driver Off the Wall era? I love that song though, one of his best unreleased songs IMO.

BTW, it's a shame they haven't put TUC on Spotify. Maybe it's because they want to use those tracks for future releases, like Sunset Driver (supposedly) in this case?

Can't imagine they're that forward thinking tbh!! If so they could always put most on and 'grey out' tracks like SD or PYT amd let us have the remix ones.
