I wonder if the lack of promotion is tied to the lack of any pre-release single, and that maybe they're just intending to do a blitz campaign upon release once there is actually something for the general public to consume. Otherwise, unless you paid attention to MJ's social media, you're going to have zero clue this is even a thing.
Hoping to see this for Thriller 40 in 3 weeks.

Its OK, they have 10 years for their marketing team to reach 21 years of age and promote Thriller 50 in an appropriate manner.

The fact they don't exploit Halloween to maximize promotion is baffling to me. They could have used Halloween to release the 4k version of the Thriller video for Halloween. Then 4k Beat It next week, and 4k Billie Jean one week before the release of Thriller 40. That would already have created some hype and attention and built up. I can't believe how amateur their PR always is. They have enough money, why can't they hire a really creative team that knows how to create hype in the modern online world? It looks like a bunch of boomers run the promotion of any MJ project with incredibly uncreative and outdated methods.

Creating some hype for Thriller should be the easiest thing. It's one of the most legendary albums of all time, the MJ era that's most popular with the general public, that's a cornerstone of American pop culture, from a more uncomplicated MJ era than some later ones (say HIStory). If they are not putting any effort into this then I don't know if there's ever going to be anything they will.
