16mm is good for 1080p, yes. At the very least we'll get it in HD if they have restored it from the original film If I remember correctly, the director of the Billie Jean short film said that all the editing and visual effects were done on tape. So even if the short was filmed in 16mm, they'd still have to re-edit it and re-create all the VFX. That could be the delay that is holding up Billie Jean getting an enhanced release.

Good point. Perhaps controversy can balance controversy and smooth things out? Who knows. Yeah, he shouldn't be singing Beat It. He gave one chick a beating and he gets a reputation! *My name is Aaron and I’m joking with Tony in my above comment. I have known Tony for many years and we share a dark sense of humour from time to time. Myself and Tony don’t condone domestic violence or any type of aggression. When myself or Tony joke like this it is to make light of a very serious issue, but an issue we take very seriously none the less.*

Listening to the album on Spotify now. It sounds fine to me overall. Nice to have the full version of Carousel on a wider release, though I found it a little jarring without the metronome ticking intro I'm used to.
Who Do You Know, The Toy, and What a Lovely Way to Go are all quite nice. Nice to hear Starlight in full also (imagine the timeline where we got THAT instead of Thriller), and the Behind the Mask demo was also kinda cool. I do wish we had gotten Hot Street on here but alas...
Also, why is the tempo on She's Trouble slower? Was it meant to be like that? I'm used to (and I think prefer) the faster tempo one I've had for years.

From LSA forum
"I saw it here in NYC. It was so much fun! The line to get in went around the block and there was still a big crowd waiting to get in when I left.
Great turn out for the the King.
I don't care what naysayers and media say, Michael is irreplaceable. He is missed by so many. I felt the love for him today.
I'm always amazed by just how diverse his fanbase is. All races. All ages. I saw quite a few little kids dressed in MJ jackets. How many older artists have that kind of effect where they are still relevant with younger people? I can't think of many.
Has anyone else here seen it? I hope other fans from all over have a chance to go!
Too bad the estate isn't doing much to promote it. I didn't even know there was an interactive experience happening. I happened to come across information for it on the 1iota website.
I'm glad I got the chance to go.
I miss him so much. That void can never be filled for me. There's only one MJ."

To be fair, the VFX in the Billie Jean short film are pretty simplistic to recreate. I wouldn’t buy that excuse if that’s what the Estate gave TBH.

I've had 2 Trouble demos for the longest time, one is rough/incomplete but at a slower tempo, one is complete but at a faster more sped up tempo. The new one on T40 sounds correct in my opinion. The fast one always sounded like someone speeding up tape too fast.

No. Apparently something about the way it was filmed means it's not possible? At least that's the gist I got. You may wanna check that with greater minds than my own, like respect77 . I'm not an expert, just repeating what I read. Billie Jean was shot on 16 mm film, so it's more difficult and costly (even if possible) to turn it into 4k. But I would be satisfied with HD (1080p) too if it's not possible to turn it into 4k. It definitely needs to be updated too. BTW, Keen swore up and down that according to his Sony informant they restored Billie Jean as well. But there's apparently something wrong around this campaign (Sony vs Estate beef?) and weird things are happening, so they haven't released Billie Jean yet. It's not so much about the cost or it being anymore difficult. The main difference between 16mm and 35mm is that a 35mm piece of film is physically bigger than a 16mm film, which essentially means there's more space to store more information and therefore deliver a more detailed image.
You can scan a piece of film to any digital resolution you want, but at some point you'll reach a cut-off resolution where you're not really gaining anymore detail by scanning a piece of film at that resolution. Naturally, a 16mm scan will reach that point much faster than a 35mm scan (and a 35mm scan will reach it faster than a 70mm scan).
While I'd still be satisfied with seeing it in 1080p, I do still think they should restore and remaster it at 4K. Even if by 4K the amount of detail a 16mm image can provide has plateaued, 4K TVs are becoming the standard in living rooms worldwide which means a lot of people will be watching it, regardless, at a 4K resolution. IMO it'd be better for the film scanner to scan it in at 4K rather than have them restore at 1080p then have the consumers device push the 1080p source up to 4K. Additionally, in the digital realm of things, YouTube delivers a comparably better video bitrate at 4K than it does for 1080p, so it'll look better and less blocky when streaming on YouTube at 4K than it will in 1080p, even if you're not necessarily seeing more detail beyond the grain.

Thanks for the information, Historic. Then they should do Billie Jean 4k, undoubtedly. Keen said they have done it, actually. I don't know why they are holding it back then.

This article by Billboard was written 10 years ago. Still one of the best articles I have read about the social and cultural background in which Thriller was released and then its culture shaping impact that cannot be only measured in record sales.
