Today's ruling in the UK Supreme Court clarifies UK domestic law in black and white, not that it really needed it. In international law, there is no democratic right to secession AND the territorial integrity of unitary sovereign states takes precedence over self-determination. The only times self-determination takes precedence is within a colonial context and/or persecution of a people by a sovereign parent state. Fortunately, Scotland has never been a colony nor is it oppressed. Given time, Scottish independence will go the way of Quebec and Catalonian secessionist demands.....decline. All Scotland, Quebec and Catalonia are entitled to under international law is limited self-government. In the UK we call this devolution. This is entirely democratic and legal. I guess I have to spell it out then... sigh... we all know you have strong political views and you posted a thread about a very diversive pollical aspect, baiting everyone to get get into a heated pollical debate with you, and no one is. And this will be my last post in this thread.

I guess I have to spell it out then... sigh... we all know you have strong political views and you posted a thread about a very diversive pollical aspect, baiting everyone to get get into a heated pollical debate with you, and no one is. And this will be my last post in this thread. There's nothing at all wrong with anyone having strong political views as long as those views aren't othering or involve murder. I'm not the only one here who has strong political views, you know. Who's being baited? What an absolutely bizarre conclusion! And yet there isn't a thing in my OP that isn't inaccurate, distortion or non-factual. Given this section IS the Politics & Religion section, its completely appropriate to post the latest very significant ruling from the UK Supreme Court. Your passive aggressive attitude really doesn't change any of that. If you're not interested in politics, there ARE other sections of the forum.....π€
