Well, he wore these bandages a lot. If I understood that right, people wear them after surgery. I think he established the routine of wearing them all the time. The thing that makes me really curious is that it seems like he wore them so often in his free time, and not only when he was home alone. (pun intended.) Even when he had meetings with other people he wore his bandage. Or for example, to the court. Michael is someone that cares about his image a lot and he always felt ugly. So him wearing his bandage all the time is really interesting. It's an imperfection in a way. Maybe he was stubborn because there was the medical need to wear it and he felt more comfortable with it. (Which I can imagine, it was) I think it helped him with breathing, it seems like he had the Empty Nose Syndrome, which would make him feel like he is not getting enough air, almost like suffocating. I never really researched if Empty Nose Syndrome is treated by also wearing bandages over the nose, but I can imagine it would help. People that snore wear them too. So the whole "he put his nose on" thing is probably just a disgusting exaggeration of him taking off the bandage and getting the contouring make up on. We shouldn't forget that Michael preferred really intense contouring on his nose, it's mostly why it's looking so thin. You can see it in so many pictures once you pay attention to it. But it's what he preferred. Another thing I often think about it is, that Michael seemed to embrace (or more like, he HAD to) the fact after a while that he was different from other people. (It's a coping mechanism that makes sense) The most obvious thing for everyone was that he was a black man with Vitiligo, which can cause so many mental health problems. There is this story from some other Celebrity that told the story of Michael wanting to borrow their make up. After a while he gave it back and said "It's not white enough" I'm sure many people see this different, but I think he really embraced all of this later and wanted to provoke people. Provoking them in the sense of "making people question the way they think". You all know what I mean? It's something I do myself, that is why I look at Michael's behavior and I seem to understand it. Of course I don't really know what is going on inside his head, I just can assume, like we all. Even though I'm always interested in stuff like this, because I enjoy studying every part of Michael's life, I'm always annoyed when this topic comes up in a more gossipy way. Michael had so many health problems. He suffered A LOT! His nose was another part of that long catalogue of health problems. Very insightful post. I definitely think MJ used his appearance to provoke and shock at times. We all know he was fascinated by figures such as Howard Hughes, and liked to think of his whole life as one big show. I know a lot of people assume his motivation behind the surgery was insecurity from his abusive childhood and whilst that may be a credible theory, I also think he saw the surgery as an extension of his larger than life persona. How he really felt about it all in the last 9yrs of his life is anyone's guess...

That would make sense yeah.

I do remember seeing something about his nose having some kind of lateral collapse; like his nostrils didn't have the structural integrity anymore to stay open. Nasal valve collapse, that's what it was. I remember mass media saying stuff about his nose collapsing and falling off or whatever, probably stemmed from that, if it was true.

There is no indication of this in the autopsy which would have noted it since every detail big and small was duly noted...

I have edited the title of this thread, so we can use this thread to discuss his plastic surgery and changing appearance over the years.

Haha... that was Stevie Nicks, both Fleetwood Mac and MJ were performing at Bill Clinton's first inaugural ball in 1993.

No, autopsy would have noted reconstructive surgery too as it did other details including his scalp. I'd stick to the results of the autopsy rather than speculation. 🤷♂️

It isn't surprising anymore that Micheal had self hate problems. he knew but denied it. Michael was always that type of guy who was stubborn and didn't want help. even the family has self hate problems because of Joe and the time they were living in.
most blacks are known for their full nose and lips and kinky hair.
it been said before he died he regretted it. i'm not sure if that's true but if so i guess he was young and stupid. we all been young before and did stupid stuff.
at first i didn't get it. now i do. the black community was right about Michael and his family having self hate problems. i was blind.
even though he did have self hate problems i still love him. i just wish he loved himself. he was a handsome black man but sadly he didn't think that.

So there's this girl at my work (I say girl, she's about 20) and she's one of those delicate wallflowers who says she's afraid of MJ. The topic of MJ has come up a few times and she always replies "I'm scared of Michael Jackson." I don't usually respond, because I know she'll say something moronic, but she elaborated today to someone else, mentioning something about plastic surgery.
It amazes me, that someone can look at MJ, the catalogue, the history, the talent, the impact etc and there only takeaway is about his physical appearance. I mean, how shallow can you get?!

I may not be black, though I’m also a woman of colour, but it is my strong belief that mj was more woke than he was given credit for. Just listen to HIStory album tracks, and his Dangerous era videos with a strong black presence I understand the narratives over the years, and mj getting surgery and “white looking kids” are what people use against mj when they say that’s proof he didn’t want to be black. I’m sure he faced oppression and adversity growing up, as he was a child in the civil rights era in the 60s and internalized messages about white being better(and Joseph telling him he looks too black), especially when rolling stone didn’t want to do a cover story during off the wall and when he only got one Grammy in the r&b category. But he was not the first or last in Hollywood to change features (not the skin colour) and I’m sure it was traumatic for him losing his pigment and made him self conscious, and feel it would have helped if he mentioned the vitiligo in the moonwalk book and people would have had sympathy, but he was very private However, I do wish he loved himself a little more, then he would have lived longer perhaps

It's funny how differently people react to his physical appearance. To my eyes, I actually think he looks sexy asf in this pic.
