The prosthetic tip on the nose is widely reported. But if true, wouldn't it have come out in his autopsy? Was there ever any mention of it?
PS. Please don't trash me for this thread - I genuinely find plastic surgery and body modification a fascinating topic and don't mean any disrespect to Michael.

My understanding is that no, itโs just always been the joke. If his nose genuinely was that mutilated that he needed a tip, youโre right it would appear somewhere in his autopsy.

According to the lads on MJCast he wore one for the YRMW video, or at least turned up with one and it lead to unpleasant scenes. I do recall very unflattering pictures of him taken around 2003 in a red shirt in court and his nose appear to be bandaged on both sides holding what looks like a tip of some sort in place. He probably had a really bad surgery around then and he looked much better from 2005 onwards.

I know it's a very ghoulish prospect, but it wouldn't be MJs fault if he was wearing a prosthetic, it would be the result of bad surgery. It wouldn't surprise me if maybe he had to wear one for a short time as a temporary measure and that was how the rumour began.

But yea, I think if he ever did wear a tip it was a temporary measure as the result of one of these surgeries. His nose looked fine towards the end of his life.

According to the lads on MJCast he wore one for the YRMW video I wouldn't count the MJCast as an authority on anything.

Only time I recall seeing this mentioned outside of tabloids was in a Randy Phillips email from when they were trying to get MJ ready for the press conference, he said they were trying to wake him up and "put his nose on" or something to that effect. Always just assumed it was a dig but also a weird thing to put as a dig in a private email.
Not that it really matters if he did wear one tbh.

I'd say his autopsy is more authoritative on that than Randy Phillips or tabloids and there's no such thing in his autopsy.

They said that the director of the video wanted MJ to wear a prosthetic nose and that MJ got upset about it. He didn't end up wearing one in the video. MJ wearing tape on his nose in private was pretty common from at least the Thriller era onwards. It didn't have anything to do with a prosthetic but rather general maintenance I would think. It appeared that some time maybe in 2002 MJ had a procedure to add some cartilage to his nose. Just compare it in 2001 and then 2005.

It looked a lot healthier and fuller after the trial.

I guessed some healing cream for sensitive skin that should slowly operate during the day. But nothing to do with proper surgery. Let's take said court day (November 13, 2002), I won't post an HQ photo of this as it's really unflattering and everyone knows which ones anyway; my point is, that there were no signs of anything severe the very next day. Photos from November 14, 2002:

Of his nose, the autopsy only says that "a small gauze was found on the tip of the nose" and that a small bandage was found on the tip.
Nothing else. Certainly not a prosthetic!
Charles Thomson certainly likes to spout nonsense about a prosthetic nose tip. Including on twitter. Taj either doesn't know or he ignores it. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Well, he wore these bandages a lot. If I understood that right, people wear them after surgery. I think he established the routine of wearing them all the time.
The thing that makes me really curious is that it seems like he wore them so often in his free time, and not only when he was home alone. (pun intended.) Even when he had meetings with other people he wore his bandage. Or for example, to the court. Michael is someone that cares about his image a lot and he always felt ugly. So him wearing his bandage all the time is really interesting. It's an imperfection in a way. Maybe he was stubborn because there was the medical need to wear it and he felt more comfortable with it. (Which I can imagine, it was)
I think it helped him with breathing, it seems like he had the Empty Nose Syndrome, which would make him feel like he is not getting enough air, almost like suffocating. I never really researched if Empty Nose Syndrome is treated by also wearing bandages over the nose, but I can imagine it would help. People that snore wear them too.
So the whole "he put his nose on" thing is probably just a disgusting exaggeration of him taking off the bandage and getting the contouring make up on.
We shouldn't forget that Michael preferred really intense contouring on his nose, it's mostly why it's looking so thin. You can see it in so many pictures once you pay attention to it. But it's what he preferred.
Another thing I often think about it is, that Michael seemed to embrace (or more like, he HAD to) the fact after a while that he was different from other people. (It's a coping mechanism that makes sense) The most obvious thing for everyone was that he was a black man with Vitiligo, which can cause so many mental health problems. There is this story from some other Celebrity that told the story of Michael wanting to borrow their make up. After a while he gave it back and said "It's not white enough"
I'm sure many people see this different, but I think he really embraced all of this later and wanted to provoke people. Provoking them in the sense of "making people question the way they think". You all know what I mean? It's something I do myself, that is why I look at Michael's behavior and I seem to understand it. Of course I don't really know what is going on inside his head, I just can assume, like we all.
Even though I'm always interested in stuff like this, because I enjoy studying every part of Michael's life, I'm always annoyed when this topic comes up in a more gossipy way. Michael had so many health problems. He suffered A LOT! His nose was another part of that long catalogue of health problems.
