90s. Most artistic videos were made in that decade and it was also back when record labels still spent good money on them.

80s, video making in its infancy, a lot of raw performance videos and great to see the outfits and makeup on the performers then. Also ot was a time where only Michael Jackson and Madonna were making epic videos, they were way ahead of everyone else, even Prince's 80s videos seemed crappy.

I would add Janet too, loved the music videos for Control and Rhythm Nation album.

Prince never invested much time or money into his music videos. Most of them were very low-budget and recorded at his soundstage at Paisley Park.

It's so true, the ones before Purple Rain are all concert performances or lipsynching. His videos get a lot better with the Diamonds and Pearls and Lovesymbol era though. And whoever said it, I agree that Janet's videos were great too, she had it all going the sound and the look. I really like a lot of Madonna's early work too. Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Open Your Heart, Like a Prayer are just masterpieces, and even Borderline - that video is so cool and so funny just the early "I don't give a shit" Madonna.

The 80s exclusively because of Michael and 90s. Besides Michael, directors like Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze did incredible videos with Bjรถrk and The Beastie Boys.
